If you like indie folk pop that sounds like it was written by thoughtful, MFA-holding literary types, then Sea Wolf is probably already on your radar. The L.A. trio released full-length
Leaves in the River in 2007, which won over English majors everywhere with its cinematic scene-setting and strummy folk-pop full of references to moonlight, crackling leaves and whistling winds--and tenuous relationships that seem to come and go with the seasons.
Sept. 22 will see the release of the full-length follow-up,
White Water, White Bloom, and a month later the band returns to Exit/In. (Last time they played here
back in November of 2007, the whole band was deathly ill, resulting in a drummer barfing frequently into a bucket.)
The opener is Los Angeles singer Sara Lov, who is repeatedly called a "honey-voiced songstress," perhaps best known outside of the L.A. music scene for her alluring
cover of Arcade Fire's "My Body is a Cage."
Also, what do we think of an artist leaking a track for preview that
isn't on the upcoming record? 'Cause Sea Wolf did that with the currently available "
Stanislaus."
