Legendary inventor, guitarist and all-around badass Les Paul died today, Aug. 13, from complications due to pneumonia. He was 94 years old, and he leaves behind him a monolithic rock 'n' roll legacy. Not only was he a sonic pioneer--making massive contributions in the development of both the solid-body electric guitar and multi-track recording--he also had a string of hits with both the Les Paul Trio and his wife, Mary Ford, back in the '40s and '50s. He will be missed by noodlers and listeners alike. The clip below is taken from the Les Paul documentary Chasing Sound! Enjoy.

Les Paul will greatly be missed. He truly knew how to play a guitar. I try to play my Gibson Les Paul every day. I found a great article about him and a photo gallery of fellow musicians such as Slash that play Les Paul Guitars. Check them out here:

Don't forget Rashied Ali, who died yesterday as well. He was the highly ambidextrious drummer in the late-era Coltrane group. Tough, but rewarding listening.
Thanks, Les, for the vision, the innovation, the artistry, and the laughs. Been getting messages all day about what a bummer it is that he passed, but we should just skip ahead to celebrating his life. The guy made it to 94 and had a ball playing music to the end.
RIP, Les Paul!
