Local trad honky-tonk troubadourPaul Burch is featured on NPR's Song of the Day today for his song "Honey Blue." It's a track off his upcoming album Still Your Man, out Aug. 18.

For the record, Burch, his terrific croony warble and the WPA Ballclub (his backing band) are still on-point as ever. We were still fairly obsessed for a hot minute over his record East to West last year--particularly the gallop-driven pluck of "Montreal," which muses on high-stakes, fast-paced love with brilliantly tempered bittersweets--even though it came out in 2006.

Not surprisingly, "Honey Blue" is about whirlwind romance as well, and according to the NPR piece, Burch accidentally erased the final version he'd recorded, so he just stuck an earlier, less polished one on the record. With its Jerry Lee Lewis feel and sauntering rollick, it's a real beauty. Burch plays The Basement Aug. 27.

Paul is the shit. I love seeing him at the Family Wash. Also, I've ran into him at the past two Elvis Costello shows at the Ryman, which just adds to his rad-ness.
