So
we already filled you in on the deets regarding Fiery Furnaces' show with White Rabbits at Mercy Lounge Aug. 19. But to make sure that everyone is amply prepared, I thought I'd share the video for "Charmaine Champagne," the single from
I'm Going Away (released this week on Thrill Jockey). We came across the video via
the relentlessly informed folks over at MBV. To be perfectly honest, I was a touch concerned when Fiery Furnaces' PR person sent us an email describing
I'm Going Away thusly:
Possibly one of their most "accessible" albums yet, "I'm Going Away" is a proper rock album. A lean and mean pop machine.
Proper rock?
Accessible??! Since when have Fiery Furnaces made anything remotely proper or accessible? And since when would their fans be interested in any sort of pop machine--lean, mean or otherwise? Luckily for folks who like Furnaces' twisted, cerebral psychedelia, this single is totally in step with their past material: weird, manic and challenging, but often pretty cool.
And since we're on the subject of Mercy Lounge (sort of), it should be noted that they've just launched
their fully redesigned website. It was rebuilt by (guess who!)
Michael Eades, yet again proving that he's, like, the Rollum Haas or William Tyler or Keith Lowen of this Internet shit. You know, 'cause he's constantly involved in a bunch of projects and stuff all the time.
