Two's a trend, right? First Paramore, now Kings of Leon rock open those platinum gates, for so long rusted shut for any rock act out of Music City. Perhaps it's time to consider the Nashville Curse broken forever. Who'd've thunk it?

From the release:

RCA Records is proud to announce the RIAA certified platinum status of Kings of Leon's fourth studio album Only By The Night. This is the first platinum record for the band in the United States. This fall, the Grammy Award-winning band will embark upon a 30-plus-date arena tour of North America, including headlining slots at Lollapalooza and the Austin City Limits festival.

....Only By The Night was released on September 23, 2008 and debuted in the top five on the Billboard Top 200 and at #1 at iTunes.  They were nominated for three Grammys and won their first for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals" for "Sex On Fire," which was #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart for nine weeks in a row. "Use Somebody," which has now sold over one million tracks, was #1 at Modern Rock for three weeks straight and is currently one of the biggest rock crossovers of the year at pop radio, sitting at #19 on the Top 40 chart....

KOL play the Sommet Center Oct. 16 as part of said 30-plus-date arena tour of North America. (Itinerary after the jump.)

Previously on Nashville Cream:

* KOL almost fight, Caleb Followill smashes sweet axe.

* Nathan Followill says Americans have shitty taste in music.

i agree with jay. there's nothing wrong with this band. it's not like they were an overnight success. let them have this! sure, many would agree that Only By the Night was not their best (or at least, the fans who have been following them since the beginning would say), but i'm almost positive these guys will dish out something spectacular for their 5th record. sometimes it's okay to sit back and watch others in their glory, instead of bashing them for being everything youre not.

It was just funny that the drummer previously said that "Americans have shitty taste in music" and now they are certified platinum.
"what's wrong with you?"
