It's time for an intersection of two things I'm sure none of us have become exhausted by as of late: tribute/cover shows and rampant Michael Jackson obsession. In honor of MJ's b-day and the 30th anniversary of Off the Wall's release, Kid Electric Concerts have put together a lineup to perform said record in its entirety. So yes, this means "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough," "Rock With You" and "Get on the Floor" will all finally be performed at Mercy Lounge. We haven't heard much Jackson material at the Cream covers nights--except of course for Eliza the Arrow feat. Thundersnake's take on "Dirty Diana"--so I'm pretty happy someone's going to be busting out the o.g. MJ '70s style. From Mercy:
Kid Electric Concerts has compiled yet another group of amazing local musicians who will perform that record in its entirety at Mercy Lounge. The line-up of vocalists alone is stellar, as it will includes the likes of Damien Horne (Muzik Mafia), Ruby Amanfu (Sam and Ruby), Lisa Kimmey and many more.
Kid Electric Concerts is a non-profit organization that presents events such as these to benefit local charities. For this event, all proceeds will be donated to Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennesse, in honor of Steve McNair.
All proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club. That's pretty awesome. There will also be prize giveaways, a dance contest and a DJ spinning Jackson hits after the performance. Tickets are only $10, and you can go ahead and purchase them here. By the by, I just heard through the grapevine that everyone's favorite GbV cover band Teenage FBI will be performing the very same night on the East Side. If you time it just right, maybe you can hear live renditions of "Tractor Rape Chain" and "She's Out of My Life" in the same night. And that would be magical.
