Who needs to see a bunch of awesome bands in Chicago when Flavor Flav is making a very special appearance right here in Middle Tennessee? Ugh, I need a drink. Saturday:
Flavor Flav's Pajama Party feat. THB & Collier at Main Street/527/whatever in Murfreesboro. Next week, they're hosting Chuck D's Panty Parade. Just kidding about that last one. Or am I? Yes. Yes I am.
Long Players Perform Purple Rain at Mercy Lounge. "There's a reason," says Adam Gold, "why the Long Players get the attention of the Scene with nearly every performance." Read his Critic's Pick to find out what that reason is.
Umbrella Tree are doing an album release at Grimey's. 4 p.m. If you miss it, you can see them again July 23 at Mercy.
Bikini Bike/Car Wash feat. Heavy Cream, Natural Child & Caitlin Rose at Halcyon. Babe alert! That one starts at 5 p.m., with the music beginning at 7.
The Branded Sons w/The Great Affairs, Jason Moore & Trinity James and Big Bad at 12th & Porter. After that, Principal vs. Coach will be doing their thing.
Jamie Foxx is performing at Sommet Center. I know we haven't provided any coverage about that whatsoever...but does that really bother you?
Gunslinger w/Pushy Lips at The End.
Oblio w/Tereu Tereu at The 5 Spot.
Past that, you've got Wess Floyd at The Basement, a Widespread Panic tribute band at Exit/In, The Lovell Sisters & more at the Opry and a band called Coathanger Abortion at The Muse. Lovely. Oh, and in case you forgot, the Beat Kangs dudes will be partying from noon until midnight at 5th and Commerce with all sorts of dope rappers, taggers, breakdancers, beatmasters and ballers. Showing those NAMM cats what's up. Plenty of options. Have a good weekend.
