Cream Calendar Weekend Round-Up: Who Needs Pitchfork? Style Part 1

Yeah, so maybe I procrastinated a bit on getting my shit together in time to make it to Chicago this weekend. And maybe a bunch of my douche friends will be watching Built to Spill, The Jesus Lizard, Yo La Tengo and Tortoise perform once-in-a-lifetime, audience-selected sets, but that doesn't mean that those of us left here in town can't see some great shows. I'm not bitter. Friday night:
The Comfies EP Release feat. The Nobility & Joel J. Dahl at The End. You know, This Ship Is Going Down. We've been over this.
Black Market feat. CED Hughes, Max Mega, Battle, Barz Viktron, the NOBOTS, Future, Wick-It, Kids Meal, Gabe Niles & Berk Visual at Exit/In. If some of those names are new to you, let Maloney tell you all about it.
Pico vs. Island Trees w/KinderCastle & The Winter Sounds at Mercy Lounge. Pretty people.
Impaler at Springwater. You guys remember Impaler? They're the ones that got Tipper Gore's panties at maximum waddage capacity.
Matt Urmy CD Release feat. John Paul Keith and One Four Fives & Leticia Wolf at The Basement.
Overzealous w/Millionaire Magicians, The Young & The Icons at The 5 Spot.
This one I'm mentioning simply because two of the opening bands have the worst names I have ever heard, and they're absolutely hilarious: The Independents w/Creeping Cruds, Scat Benetar & THC in the Sex Lounge at The Muse. WUT??
Alright. Tristen's also playing at The Boro in the 'Boro with bands called The Lake and Whiskey Ring. I heard something about Third Eye Blind covers. No joke. Well, that's a pretty solid list there, so I'm sure you'll be able to find some hip-hop, metal, indie-pop, rock 'n' roll or island music to take your mind off of not being at that place up north with all the bands. While I am going to The Boro in the Boro to see Tristen (and because I always go there), I'm excited to hear The Whiskey Ring, only because I unequivocally support bands named for obscure political scandals.
