The other day, Team Cream got lost in Green Hills but eventually wound up in the office of local independent production team/electronics company Beat Kangz. The guys showed us their new product--the beat-making, sampling, editing, mixing and sequencing badass they're calling Beat Thang.

Without getting too geeky, let's just say it's got just about everything you could imagine for making beats, comes pre-loaded with 2,000 royalty-free sounds, can sample, tweak, freak, chop, screw, turn your pitch up and all that. (It won't smack your bitch up, though.) The box itself also interfaces with the Beat Thang Virtual software and acts as the controller in that environment. It's pretty sick.

The Beat Kangz crew will be demoing the machine at the NAMM convention this weekend, but chances are you're not an industry schlup, so for the rest of us, they're throwing an old school hip-hop block party at the corner of 5th and Commerce this Saturday (tomorrow), July 18, from noon to midnight. DJs, MCs, breakdancers and taggers will be part of the mix, along with food and drink. And oh yeah, it's free.
