Video Round-Up: The Non-Commissioned Officers, Thurston Moore at Betty's and Dead Weather Get Violent

Posted by D Patrick Rodgers on Mon, Jul 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM

* The Make-Out With Violence folks have posted three new Non-Commissioned Officers music videos featuring footage from the film. I opted to embed "Sweet Eleanor," 'cause it's my favorite song from the Make-Out OST, and also it features footage that is more grotesque and less emotional. See also "Ride" and "No Means No." * Apparently after Sonic Youth's set at War Memorial, Thurston Moore sauntered over to Betty's Grill to perform an impromptu set with Leslie Keffer. Here's proof, though the footage is a bit shaky and the sound mostly indistinguishable. This begs the question: Is Betty's the new Springwater? * Remember that Dead Weather music video that debuted on Cinemax? Well Pitchfork has it right here. The song's called "Treat Me Like Your Mother," but unless Jack White engages in gratuitous machine-gun duels with his mom, I don't think he's been heeding Alison Mosshart's lyrical demands.

Betty s is just Bettys. Its not the new

comparing bars shows and bands in this
town? Also tracey I thought "the cool kids
haven't infiltrated" bettys yet.

So you're saying there are cool kids at Springwater? I must have missed something...

I'm having a hard time putting together the fact that my 60 year old father-in-law's favorite bar is also a place that Thurston Moore performs music.

O that's right, the only cool people in
Town are the people who write for the scene, the
Cream or post comments here.I think their point was
Something cool must be happening there if moore/keffer
Are playing a show there.

My roommate shot Thurston and Leslie's entire set. The encore is here. He's gonna post the rest of the show later.
It's basically a bunch of noise, but it's kinda fun to watch Thurston and Leslie writhing with guitars on the floor.

Look Everybody knows the cool kids are at the basement and the Mercy Lounge. I think that's established. Have you seen those hats, only cool people where those hats. HATS!

How can betty's be the new springwater? Also, why is that the question? Shouldn't the question be more about the music...not the place or the "scene".
Oh and Thurston didnt saunter over to betty's. Thanks to Leslie Keffer (who you guys choose to back wash) she was able to get Thurston to hang at a bar where you don't have to deal with you douches judging everything and making it a scene like you guys. Why don't you go back to Mercy Lounge!!!!!!!

Hahaha. I judge these comments to be hilarious. I'd better go buy a hat before Mercy Lounge and The Basement start kicking me out. I'll be sure not to saunter, though.

Well, I had a good time on Saturday. Music was awesome, crowd was laidback, and the beer was cold. Thanks to all who put it together and to the staff at Betty's.
And if you think that Betty's is a new version of anything, you're sorely mistaken. They've had their own thing going for a long time now. If you don't believe me, Rex will set you straight.

Leslie: Yes! Although, it is strictly referred to as The Trolley in the Belew household.

The cool kids are just jealous that they weren't uncool enough to be in the know. we didn't miss any of you.

Sometimes the trajectory of comment threads baffles me. Betty's is awesome. Thurston Moore playing a set there is awesome. We posted a link to a video of it...What's the problem here? That Springwater was mentioned? That was a joke. We don't actually think that Betty's is the new anything.

leslie makes betty's an awesome place with a sick array of noise shows, travelling and local. she is one of nashville's great musical heroines. betty's is under the radar of the Nashville Scene because many of the acts that play there tend to not have record deals (though some do) and aren't established in the nashville indie circuit or whatever, and they don't play at or hang out at the mercy lounge or the basement too often. shows there are also spread by word of mouth and text message. nashville cream is a great blog but it is very limited in scope. there's a whole lot of amazing stuff going on in our city that ne'er gets a mention except for when a little hamilton or springwater band breaks out a bit and plays to a more "refined" crowd, i.e. heavy cream (who are amazing, b.t.w.). i'm done elaborating because i don't wanna blow up the spot too much and start seeing Basement grimey-licker douches at the shows i like.

Whatever, I just go there to stare at boobs and talk to Rex.
Shows suck. Especially touring bands. They're all "blah blah blah merch blah blah gas money blah blah blah." Maggots.

Betty's is Betty's Not the Trolley why do people still call it that Betty is a hard working woman that has worked there for 20 years.
