I heard on the radio this morning that you definitely should stay away from downtown Los Angeles today. (I also heard people going "woooooooo" when they found out they got tickets to a funeral. Weird.) Luckily, Creamers, there is a sensible alternative: Watch the Michael Jackson memorial on the big screen at The Belcourt. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the memorial starts at noon. The event is free.

Unfortunately, it's press day here at the Scene, so I probably won't be able to make it. But my colleague in L.A., music editor Randall Roberts, will actually be at Staples Center. "'ll be tweeting when it's not vulgar to do so (this is a memorial service for the King of Pop, after all)," he tells Cream. Follow @laweeklymusic on twitter to keep up. Lineup after the jump.

Scheduled to appear in one capacity or another (with more possibly to be added):

Usher

Stevie Wonder

Ron Boyd, Jackson's family friend

Kobe Bryant

Mariah Carey

Andrae Crouch Choir

Berry Gordy

Jennifer Hudson

Shaheen Jafargholi, a finalist on Britain's Got Talent

Magic Johnson

Martin Luther King III

Bernice A. King

John Mayer

Lionel Richie

Smokey Robinson

Rev. Al Sharpton

Brooke Shields

Pastor Lucious Smith

This sudden media-driven celebration of MJ's life is farcical and disingenuous at best. I'm sick to death of it.
