If you've been following Cream or reading the Scene at all, you know we were pretty psyched about the Road to Bonnaroo 8 off 8th series at Mercy Lounge, which sent The Features, The Protomen and Heypenny to Bonnaroo. Today, Nashville NPR affiliate WPLN aired a feature by Craig Havighurst on the RTB phenomenon.
Followers of the Nashville rock scene say the Road To Bonnaroo did stir up fresh energy and hometown pride, with fans packing every night of the contest, where audiences and expert judges voted on the winners. But the challenge is less getting Nashville excited about Bonnaroo than getting Bonnaroo excited about Nashville.
It stirred up a whole lot more than hometown pride, I'd say, but I think everyone can agree that those were some of the most electric, talked-about and meaningful shows of the year. That said, it looks like we'll get to do it all again--plus one. So get to workin' on your set now, rock bands, because according to the story, "Next year, the contest's organizers are planning to sending four winners to Manchester."
