Golden Nugget: The Monkees on Nashville Now

Posted by Adam Gold on Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 5:03 PM

Today's nugget (via YouTube user Dal88) is taken from a Nashville Now appearance by The Monkees circa 1989. As you can see, this was during their late-'80s sans-Nesmith reunion, a time during which Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork were all exceptionally unfortunate fashion victims. Tork's got some Charlie Manson hair goin' on, Jones looks like he's wearing his suit backwards and Dolenz...well, nothing will ever really upstage his smooshy face. Their choreography is worth a mention as well, it's funny in its halfheartedness. I mean, what do you expect from boy band pioneers pushing 50? I choose to let all these elements enhance rather than distract, and you should too as the nexus of bad '80s fashion, Nashvillishness and '60s pop that are hard at work in these videos is truly a sight to behold.

FACT: Mickey Dolenz has one of the most underappreciated pop voices of the 20th centruy. Monkey-faced he may be, at least he's not useless, DAVY.

that was harsh. I thought and yet think each one of the Monkees are very talented. I actually believe that Davy yet has a beautiful voice. I like them all.
