The new long player from Cortney Tidwell is called Boys, and it is currently streaming for your listening enjoyment courtesy of the good people at City Slang. It will only be up for a short time, we're told, so check it out in this form while you can. There's unfortunately still no word on a U.S. release date. (City Slang is Tidwell's European home.)
I'll be honest: I'm already penciling this in as one of my favorite albums of the year. Though it's stylistically quite different, it's hitting me in the same spot as St. Vincent's Actor, which, for whatever reason, is exactly the spot I want to get hit in right now. (Sorry, Veckatimest, you're boring the shit out of me.) Sounds bubble up, erupt and crash into each other, then dissipate over the expansive spaces created throughout--and the combination of lull and surprise is both striking and beautiful.
Oh, and if you haven't seen the video for "Watusii" (track two), please correct that post-haste.
