According to this post from Music City TV, police tossed the ever-incorrigible John Rich out of Café Coco after the embattled country star chucked a beer bottle into street in plain view of an on-duty sergeant.
The incident occurred after an unwitting server attempted to institute the 3 a.m. cut off for alcohol and take a beer from Mr. Rich, who had just shanghaied another patrons' guitar to sing one of his favorite Roger Miller songs. True to his rep, Rich said "You don't interrupt me when I'm playing a Roger Miller song" and proceeded to make a scene. He was neither cited nor arrested.

As if I needed another reason to hate Cafe Coco. Now John Rich hangs out there?
I wonder when this is going to cross the line from "ha-ha what an asshole" to "holy shit that dude's got a problem and will die." This is a step in that direction. I'll wait until he gets ejected from the Muse before I weigh in completely.
Does anyone have any insight into this persons problem? All the success and money, and yes, talent in the world and he still appears to be miserable. Can anyone say "out of control alcoholic"? When is someone in the community going to stand up and confront him before he kills somebody else or himself in a drunken blur or a DWI? Cafe Coco is about as relaxed a place in town as you can get and he goes there? He must be running out of places to get kicked out of. Would somebody in this guys inner circle do something please, before an innocent person gets hurt, or he hurts or kills himself? The guy is clearly crying out for help and the entire town has been ignoring it for years now. He got his fame and his money now would somebody please help him find some inner peace? This is what I can't stand about the inner circles of Nashville, you all enable each others addictions to the grave. Enough already. And the server who cut him off is my hero, Kudos.
Birdbreath,
I'd hire you to perform the intervention.
As payment we'll sign over the deed to the Love Circle property.
Did someone really just say that this drunken shithead is talented? Wow.
The guy's written some incredible songs!
Where's his wife?
if he likes ROGER MILLER so much, why does his own music SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF ALL THINGS GOOD, DECENT, GENUINELY AMERICAN and, GENERALLY LISTENABLE????????????????????
He wore a tshirt in support of Fred Thompson on one of the morning shows, and he takes the cowboy thing so far out he could pass for one of the Village People.
Overcompensating, but for WHAT?
If you take the alcohol out of John Rich, you'd just have an alcohol-free dickhead menace. I don't care how many "hits" he's written or recorded - the man is a loathsome jackass.
Birdbreath is right, John Rich should kill himself before he hurts somebody. Kudos
nice to hear he's destroying himself so we don't have to work as hard anymore!
Jeez. I guess the guy's been not nice, or displayed poor behavior, to each of you?
Otherwise, why such venom? I thought Nashville was a friendly place.
Does he drive drunk?
I guess John Rich's presence is just making worse people out of all us then. Also, after hearing that in DE-troit song I would say that he has displayed poor behavior to at least myself.
This is a fairly small town and as much as he gets around, yeah plenty of people have seen him be a dick...aka himself...at least he is consistent...you always know what you are going to get with John Rich...a big dick!
Buddy, I never said such a horrible thing nor ever would I say that, you have grossly misquoted me. I suggested his behavior is self destructive and he could potentially have an accident or out burst with bigger consequences than he's bargaining for, that's why they are consequences. Out of control alcoholism is a badge of honor in certain Nashville circles, especially if it coincides with having millions of dollars. They've let them drop dead plenty of times in the past rather than do anything before it's to late.
I've got a friend who's chummy with him and says he's ok, just misunderstood, but I'll admit that though I've never interacted with him, I don't like him by default. The Love Hill thing really soured me and having been consistantly drunk at Coco for nearly 12 years now, I know how hard it is to get kicked outta that place.
His public persona is that he's a fucking dick, isn't it? That's like the whole point.
But the Love Circle monstrosity would have been harder to take if the nouveau riche bastards on the south side of the hill hadn't already fucked up the neighborhood by building those ugly ass huge shitbox houses in the last five or ten years. The neighborhood used to look like a southern version of the Berkeley Hills, now it looks like Williamson County thanks to the 4000 square feet brick monstrosities along the upslope side of Love Circle. The place was already ruined. All John Rich did was up the ante.
The other good thing is that he now lives in a place where he has to drive through the nightly West End gauntlet to get home at night.
Five will get you fifty that he doesn't get a DUI in the next twelve months.
Birdbreath... What inner circles are you talking about? And who has let someone drop dead? Please support your claims.
Has "his" twitter not been mentioned yet? @john_rich. Awesome.
HE IS JUST ACTIN' OUT 'CAUSE HE MISSES BIG, Y'ALL.
and maybe he was pissed that the red wings lost a game. since he wants to marry detroit and all.
yeah that DUI is inevitable, huh?
wow. you people are really hateful. you should be ashamed of yourselves
Honestly?
From what I hear he can get a bit out of control. And maybe that shows he has a problem. I've also seen him seem stone-cold sober and business-like, and he's written a stack of songs that clearly took work and intelligence, whether you like them or not. So... not clear.
The house thing, I don't get. The shell on the hill seems like he doesn't care about his neighbors-- weird to choose a neighborhood because you want to be there, in theory, and then seemingly hurt that neighborhood. But I just keep hoping when the project is done it will make more sense than it seems to now in its incomplete state.
Seems like a fair amount of people commenting here don't like his politics. Now I haven't sat down for a detailed discussion about it with him, but from what he's revealed publicly, I don't agree with his point of view myself. However: I respect his right to his opinion. The fact that ours are different underscores one of the things that makes this a great country. Claiming Johnny Cash would support the Republican side, well, that seemed off to be sure.
But here's the thing. I don't know the guy. I've met him and he was nice enough. I bet most of the people commenting here don't know him better than I do.
He's written some extremely well-crafted country songs that have sold huge numbers, and helped break careers for other artists. He's invested his own time and effort into bringing up other artists and getting them heard by the power players in the industry. He's written passionately about the need for new talent and the necessity of discovering new people and supporting them. He's created a visible, TV-worthy face for country music in crossover markets-- not the only one, but getting it out there and garnering attention for a part of the industry that thrives here, and upon whose fortunes Nashville thrives too. And at the end of the day, few voices out there in any medium are more passionate about music and country music in general. He can be an incredibly powerful and positive force for Nashville, for music, for artists, writers, etc.
I don't know why he does what he does. We can all continue to speculate about that if it's interesting to people. If I believe what I've read, he's had a lot of moments in his career where people have told him he's s__t. And yet he's persevered and created some success-- so perhaps he's learned that when he makes more noise, pushes harder, keeps going no matter what anyone tells him, it works out for him. And maybe that has made him less likely to listen to those who don't agree with him.
Maybe John is reading this thing and he can jump in and set us straight.
But I posit this: Nashville is better off with John Rich than without him. Rather than chopping him down, predicting his doom, and calling him names, let's adopt him. Watch out for him a little bit, and make him feel welcome. If he feels like the whole world is against him, there's not a lot of reason to play nice. But people usually don't hurt their friends.
Hey, plenty of country singers have gotten DUIs without any career damage.
And as I said with his house: yeah, it's a dick move, but those neighbors who already tore down Love Circle cottages to build McMansions along the hillside had already shit in the cream, and have nothing to complain about. JR just did their thing and cubed it.
Why the hell was he not arrested?
"Nashville is better off with John Rich than without him."
- Bullsh^t.
Hey by the way, I'm not suggesting he should be above the law in any way. 'The OG DG' says "plenty of country singers have gotten DUIs without any career damage" but the fact is many DUIs end in someone's bloody, messy death. No one should be allowed to put anyone else at risk.
Oh Dr. Science, how can you be so clueless? Hilarious!
I wonder how long it will be until Rich begins collaborating with Dave Cloud.
"You like drinkin' Windex? Me too! Let's write a song about it!"
Now if this incident happened on the Demonbreun strip, people would have been applauding him for fitting in with the locals. But Cafe fucking Coco? Cmon Rich, leave the hippies/hipsters out of the picture and know where you belong.
Well I for one am soo sad with JR, i don’t know what to think. I am a huge fan of his…now I know he can be a bit “proud”, and granted ever since his marriage he has been in more trouble than usual, but give the guy a break. He drinks yes, he’s under alot of stress because he has 3 lawsuits against him not to mention these latest ones accusing him of plagarizing the song “redneck woman”. And a new album, plus a tour, and all the other details that follow being in the public eye. I don’t applaud his behavior as of late, but if you worked your whole life trying to be something and do stuff you love and some guy shows up and besmirches your whole exsistence, wouldn’t you be pissed off?? If this fight had been about one trailer trash hick against another hick, there would not be a lawsuit. Jared Ashley has known John for “years”. John has tried to HELP Jared up until Jared got snippy. Jared also has had issues with John;s little brother Issac. Why would someone who had problems with JR and Ike, still go to JR’s PRIVATE bar, drink for free(moocher)and then insult the host. Jared is not all that innocent. His little stunts are getting him the recongnition he hasn’t had since Nashville Star and that is another story, JR got him on there..giving Jared a leg up against the others, but when the sponsors changed half way through Jared ended up losing. Well Jared’s blogs show another side. He knew he had help in the show by JR and yet he still lied to everyone. He taunted JR at Legends, showed up at a PRivate pub, and he’s supposed to be the “BETTER GUY” Give me a break!! JR may not be perfect, But Jared is not that Innocent. I’m on TEAM RICH. for better or worse. I love JR, and i pray that he bounces back from all of this. KEEP THE FAITH,BROTHER SOME OF US STILL BELIEVE IN YOU.
LOVE YOU
A country singer gets kicked out of a bar called Cafe Coco. Waylon is spinning, I tell you, spinning.
When will he stop this and just come out of the closet?
