As things continue to get heated in the race down the Road to Bonnaroo, there has been one display of altruism betwixt local bands: The boys of Tommy and the Whale have signed all of their fans over to Heypenny. As you'll no doubt recall, T and the Dub disbanded several weeks ago, and they recently finalized negotiations that left their devoted fans in the Heypenny camp. The transaction is documented in this photograph, as well as in the following excerpt from a press release:
2009 Heypenny (NASDAQ: HEYP) and Tommy and the Whale (NASDAQ: TATW) announced today they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Heypenny will acquire all of Tommy and the Whale's fans..."There ended up being a lot of interest, and a lot of offers from bands such as Pico Vs Island Trees, Kyle Andrews, and How I Became the Bomb. And the negotiations took longer than we'd anticipated. But in the end, the board decided that, to reduce complexity, risk and cost by delivering a highly optimized stack based standard, Heypenny was the way to go."
If you're unfamiliar with Heypenny's jams, jaunt on over to this YouTube video of them playing "Star 4 All da Kidz" at a recent 5 Spot show. It's got three-part harmonies, beats, bizarre dance moves and horns a-plenty. You can also check out this interview H-Penny did with Death + Taxes while they were in New York. Also participating in the third and final Road to Bonnaroo 8 off 8th at Mercy Lounge May 18--the winner of which lands a spot at the Manchester fest--are Shoot the Mountain. STM, as seen here, are specifically gunning for fellow competitor and blue-eyed-soul-smooth-jam master Space Capone (who has allegedly never even been to space). Then there's Hotpipes, who have a bit of a conflict: Their episode of Gossip Girl is airing the very same evening. Prep your TiVos. Last but certainly not least, you've got controversy-magnets and cock rockers supreme The Tits, house-show punk wunderkinds The Kindergarten Circus, Springsteeny/Neil-Youngy folk crooner Jacob Jones, and also Elle Macho. Place your wagers now; the tunes--and the voting--commence in roughly 80 hours.

Wasn't Glossary playing in this show too? I was pulling for them to win this round.

Glossary was mentioned very early on, but they were never confirmed. Hotpipes jumped on the bill instead. Probably a scheduling conflict.

Gee Wizz - Last thing I heard was that DJ Gumby bought all of the How I Became The Bomb, Autovaughn, Kindercastle, Pico vs Island Trees and And The Relatives fans for the small price of a romantic romp for 25 at Smyrna Country Club. So - who knows, eh?

not that all of these bands aren't great. . . but i'll be pretty bummed if heypenny doesn't win. I haven't seen a better live show from a local in nashville yet.

Matt, as someone who is in no way directly affiliated with the series and has not been asked to judge, I'm going to say yes. Yes you can still vote for Glossary.

I can't decided which of these bands is my personal favorite. I guess we all will know as soon as the results are announced — since we all know that is how the winner is actually determined.

Actually, scratch that. I'll take the drama out of this for everyone.
While we hope you come out to support your favorite band and the Mercy, the winner of the May 18 RTB 8 off 8th is Jensen Sportag.

Gee wiz. . . .I mean. . . .Like them or not, they are great at forcing a room full of people to enjoy themselves. Hotpipes, shoot the mountain, and the tits are all a fun show, and i like them all, but heypenny makes me believe it every time i see them play.

Heypenny might have a decent live show if you like fops and sensible sweaters, but they are no Gwar, that's for fucking sure...

That's for damn sure, Bawston Sean! Heypenny would never eat the judges.
