Slow news day. Let's laugh at Brian Williams trying to hang with the "indie, emerging music" band Deer Tick, who are best known 'round these parts as alleged notches on the Darlins' collective bedpost and seem to have some sort of song on the iTunes that people like. Have you heard about this iTunes? It's got pictures and songs and the kids really dig it.
Let just say it right now, Williams is no Dan Harris--he can handle some hard news, but frivolous sweater-wearing bullshit does not fit him well. Of all the people on the NBC News staff this is the only person who likes music? That's a stretch. Deer Tick are pretty cool (I like 'em), but Williams is so painfully square it makes the video tough to watch without giggling. BriTunes? Really? My parents would think that was lame.
At least it's embeddable. Thanks to Big Weav for the tip.

Good answer to "When will you know that your life is going to be different?" If they have a wee one, I'm definitely ordering this romper as a shower gift.
Underscores an important point though... how important is iTunes to the emerging artist? I think that answer depends on your audience. I've only bought one track from iTunes, but my physical-media habits are not the norm. Anyone a big iTunes user?
That Art Isn't Real (City of Sin), that's a damn good song. Are they really emerging? I thought they'd emerged.
I think "emerging" means Brian Williams hasn't heard of them...I don't think it has anything to do with the real world.
Good point, even one national tour let alone several, should let one consider oneself "emerged." John played a set by himself at the 5 Spot last December that was killer, and I thoroughly enjoyed their Daytrotter session. I've had the privilege of chatting with him several times, and he's a real sweet guy. Still don't have any of their records, but if I hear right, they'll be back in Nashville sometime in July.
Would it be crass to suggest that Brian Williams' band should be a punk outfit called Thee Anchormen?
The question still remains - am I troglodelicious because I don't buy stuff on iTunes?
