If you aren't going to Bonaroo and want to escape the Fan Fair clusterfuck on June 12, I would definitely consider heading out to Kix Brooks' place and gettin' goofy on some grapes. If you haven't seen Etta James live, you owe it to yourself--please pretend that Cadillac Records was never made and that Beyonce had the good sense not to sign on as an obvious James wannabe. I've heard from folks that the Vineyard is a really chill place to see a show, which in contrast to the other options that weekend, is looking really appealing. Sweet hang, dooder.

Also, Loggins & Messina are going to be appearing at Arrington Vineyards on Sept. 6, but we all know that the only way to listen to Loggins is on the golf course when you're killin' gophers. And just for the sake of conversation, would you look at this guy's redonkulous drum kit:

Just sayin'.

Our party of 3 attended the Etta James @ Arrington Vinyards event. In preperation we packed our picnic & lawn chairs and traveled 2 1/2 hours, arriving @ 4pm to get good seats. Paid $150.00 for 3 tickets, and waited. At about 8:10pm Ms. James took the stage, and performed well for about 30 minutes. It was OVER, she and band left the stage, lights up. Party over. Stunned our picnic party packed, waited an hour for the croud to thin. Drove home. This seems to be a repeat performance of the one described so elequently by a Houston review of her performance of April 25,2009. Been a fan of Ms James' music for years, still am but wish I'd remained mesmerized by the music, not the visual effects.
