Today would have been Charles Mingus' 87th birthday. (Thx, Idolator!) Which makes this the perfect time to talk about cat poop. See, the upright bassist not only showed the world just how cool cool can be, but he also had a system for getting teh kittehs weaned off of the litter and getting them to shit in the toilet like normal people. He published this system as The Charles Mingus CAT-alog for Toilet Training Your Cat and you can download it from his official site, which is exactly what my wife and I did when we adopted our cat Firefly this winter.

It's an awesome idea, really: A cat that can handle its own business and doesn't get litter all over the floor. Of course, that's not how it worked out for us, but it's an awesome idea. Maybe it's because neither of us are musicians and we're not really tuned into that ethereal whosywutzit that makes animals and artists so gosh darn entertaining, but we basically trained our cat to poop in the bath tub. Firefly decided early on that she only wants to crap at the same time that we crap and that doesn't work since toilets are single occupancy affairs, hence she poops in the tub. Which is gross and we can't get her to stop.

So, next time you're thinking "Hey, I'm going to follow a musical genius' advice about a none musical topic" just remember this little anecdote and maybe reconsider.

Do I even need to ask if you're referring to Battlestar Galactica as the best show ever?

BSG, duh. Though if Firefly had gotten a fair shake, it'd probably be #1. Well, actually that all depends on the winner of the Roy Schieder/Nathoan Fillon death match. I love me some SeaQuest. And Danger Mouse too. Okay, I'm gonna stop before i start waxing rhapsodic about Bannana Man shorts...

my cat Ripples actually did use the toilet once without any training. shocked the hell out of us!

ok, I don't know all the tv shows you are talking about but I love the cat stories. What is BSG? Firefly? Am I really that old or not tv nerdy enough.
Good luck with the poop in the bathtub. Do you have a seperate shower?
