Prepare to get owned by Theory 8. The classy gents over at We Own This Town have just posted another podcast, and this one is dedicated solely to artists united beneath the Theory 8 flag. It includes scorching-fresh tracks from the likes of Shoot the Mountain and Eliza the Arrow (Elizabeth Cameron of Forget Cassettes acclaim), as well as scorching (though not necessarily fresh) tunes from Caitlin Rose, The Privates, Protomen and The Winter Sounds.
Captain Aaron Hartley of the SS Theory 8 also sent over the brand-new Shoot the Mountain track "Invitation." It's included in the WOTT podcast, but you can click below if you'd like to peep it independently. At some point between cavorting with Mickey Rourke, Kris Kristofferson and Della Reese, Joe Blankenship and the rest of the STM crew apparently had time to record an EP over at Battletapes. The release show is scheduled for May 16 at The Basement with Totally Snake and another band that shall, for now, remain nameless. You can also catch Shoot the Mountain tomorrow night with The Appleseed Cast. Hey, here's a Critic's Pick! Enough bloggin'. Time for a mid-week dance sesh.

OK, not to to start up the typical 'hater' rant (though it's been awhile since there's been a good hater rant on the Cream), but seriously, what is it about Shoot the Mountain that is so worthy of attention?? this song 1)is boring 2) has a cliched riff that, sadly and predictably, falls in line with another 100 "hi-hat" bands du jour 3)has silly lyrics that make one cringe to hear them 4)has a silly string intro that is supposed to somehow make us take the band more seriously...
i don't get it...i'm sure the fellows are nice guys and they can certainly play their instruments, but those things shouldn't be the only criteria. The song should be good, too...and the recording is just too murky...try another studio next time...battle tapes didn't cut it in this situation.
I like the song, lyrics, music, etc.
So, yes, you have your opinion. Educated or not, your opinion is appreciated in this/any forum. Yet, there are those of us, and many like us, who enjoy this band. But I digress, you asked a question, "..what is it about Shoot the Mountain that is so worthy of attention??"
-I love quirky lyrics, and ever since the days of The Cycle, these boys have brought the quirk hardcore. Not that i hate linear song writing, it has its place in my heart as well.
-The simplicity of their music can be appreciated when other bands are trying to be clever and end up coming across just plain noisy. Once again, not that I dislike noise rock, i make it for gods sake. But they are doing what they enjoy and doing it well, thats more than I can say for %70 of the other bands I see written up in this and other local mags.
-The "silly string intro" is another facet of their non-linear thinking. Along with their "silly lyrics", it makes them stand out, in my humble opinion.
Anyway, if your basing your opinions on this one song, please see a show. They might just surprise you. If you're really interested, they are playing with Appleseed Cast tonight at The End.
