As you've most likely gathered from previous posts, I'll always jump on any opportunity to blog about the national treasure that is Bruce Springsteen. A few weeks back I wrote a post expressing my concern regarding the availability of E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg for Springsteen's June 13 appearance at Bonnaroo. Weinberg's new gig as bandleader for the "Tonight Show" begins June 2, forcing him to sit out a number of shows--mostly in Europe--on the band's summer tour. Sitting in for him will be none other than his 19-year-old son Jay, who is the drummer for New Jersey metal band Chaosis. Rumors of the torch-passing began brewing last week when the younger Weinberg was seen at rehearsals in Asbury Park, NJ. Today the Springsteen camp had this to say:
In response to the many questions concerning the upcoming tour, the drummer on the small number of shows that Max Weinberg won't be able to appear at will be a brilliant young drummer from New Jersey named Jay Weinberg. Commenting on the situation, Bruce said: "Once again, I want to express my appreciation to Conan O'Brian, and everyone on his team, for making it possible for Max to continue to do double duty for both us and for him. We promise to return him in one piece."
Jay Weinberg sat in with the band for a performance of "Born to Run" last July at Giants Stadium. He pretty much nailed it. The video above shows the touching father/son moment. At this point it's unclear which Weinberg will be appearing at Bonnaroo. Tickets to the festival are still on sale and can be purchases through their official website.

Bonnaroo is a U.S. one-off during the Euro portion of the tour.
Jay currently plays in the NYC punk rock band THE REVELING.
