* Janet Timmons of Out the Other has a newish tumblelog, Elliston and Eighth, to help you keep the Nashville rock flowing through your veins.

* Lightning 100 is playing nothing but U2 today. (U2'sday lasts until 7 p.m.) Gold is having multiples as we speak.

* Hotpipes are up next for a Lake Fever Session. (Via WOTT.)

* Meltface Records sent me a copy of the Baby Teeth Thieves' album, which is currently a front-runner for favorite band name and favorite album art of '09. (See above.) More about Meltface over at WOTT.

* It's an honor just to be nominated. Of course, I wouldn't know.

Don't worry, Steve. Maybe you'll be honored enough for them to misspell your name next year.

That'd be great about U2 if they were still relevant...

I can tell you that their upcoming tour will be relevant to my personal well-being and happiness in the days to come. As far as their global relevance is concerned, I guess you're right, bands like Coldplay, The Killers and The Arcade Fire that site them as a primary influence aren't successful at all. I don't hear any U2 in modern music. (sarcasm mode off) In all seriousness you can hold them responsible for a band like Coldplay, and even use it to make the case against them, but you can't use it to make a case against their relevance. In fact I think U2 is generally hated for their relevance as opposed to their actual output. Or people just can't stand Bono. Either way, I'm on the other side of the arguement and being that today is street date for their 13th record, my dick is pretty hard right now.

One thing I do know is at Grimey's, we didn't sell those expanded 2-CD reissues very well at all. The vinyl reissues well under-performed from what I thought demand would be, at least for their "classic" titles. And "Atomic Bomb" was indeed a big fat bomb for us, tanking in sales. So how do you explain the fact that the new one is literally flying off the shelves today? Maybe because it's actually pretty dang good? Can't just be marketing cuz that last one was well-shoved down our throats and it didn't take (at least in our little indie corner of the world). We placed a big re-order today on street date to make sure we have stock through the week and weekend.

I think some of it might have to do with the added credibility of having Brian Eno back in the fold. He put his mark all over this new record. Just a thought.
