I honestly don't know if anything will top the brain-trip I went through last year, as the night transitioned between Feist and Lil' Jon (The Spin was there, too), but here you have it: The Flaming Lips and N.E.R.D. are playing Vanderbilt's annual reason to own a cooler with wheels, Rites of Spring. The lawn-trashing happens Apr. 17-18.
I never thought the Lips would be as big a deal as they are now, but hey, good for them. I guess I'm pretty glad I was able to catch them at a place as small as Metro in Chicago. (Hum opened.) Anyway, also confirmed for RoS: Q-Tip, Okkervil River and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, with more to be announced, of course.
Tickets and passes will cost you somewhere between $20 and $55, and go on sale Monday at 10 a.m., through the hands of lovely Ticketmaster or by calling 255-9600.

Steve: I think we've had this convo. before, but I too was at the Flaming Lips - Hum Metro show. NYE 2000 IIRC.
It was awesome show. Top 5 of all time for me.
God I feel old.
Were you rocking the pointy hat back then? Maybe I saw you.
I have you bitches beat. I saw Flaming Lips open for Tool at 328 Performance Hall in 1994. Failure played before them. Suck on that!
Also, you forgot to mention that Santigold and Grand Ole Party are also playing. According to the Vanderbilt Hustler there's still ANOTHER HEADLINER to be announced. How do you like them apples?
I'm all about some Santogold. Or Santigold or whatever she calling herself these days. That record was one of 08s best.
