This year, the Alliance of Independent Music Stores and Coalition of Independent Media Stores are holding their annual conference in Nashville. And it's now! Store owners (and the occasional store manager) from places all over the country, including Phoenix, Seattle, San Diego, Portland, Atlanta, and Birmingham, are in town this week; according to our source, they are "talking about record store/record industry problems," and going on fun field trips, like a honky-tonk crawl on Lower Broad last night.
If all this conferring and hot independent media store action has escaped your notice, that's because attendees are mostly keeping to themselves. But one related event that will be open to the public is tonight's show at the Basement. Put together by AIMS and CIMS, it will feature:
* Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, who will be performing stuff from the new Clem Snide album, out yesterday, as well as his solo stuff.
* Caroline Peyton of the Numero Group, who just reiussed her two "lost" albums; she rarely performs this music live now, and she was featured on WPLN's Live in Studio C yesterday.
* The Dexateens, a garagey rock band from Alabama with a new album coming out soon. Supposed to be good live.
The show costs $8. But the question we really want answered is, will this be a good chance to check out attractive people from out of town? Can I find hot people to be hot with? According to our source, "there are definitely some lookers."
