Spring Hill Spider Party 'Reunion' at The Mercy Lounge Thursday

From Emily Bartlett Hines' Critic's Pick in the forthcoming issue of the Scene:

Recently, Derrick Brown of Spring Hill Spider Party facetiously declared that "we're part of a tradition that started with 3 Doors Down." More relevantly, another member has defined the band as "the Spinal Tap of dance music": They treat a genre's overblown conventions with affectionate satire. SHSP songs poke fun at dance and techno's "sexy" lyrics by exhorting the listener to "take a ride inside my escalator of fudge," lamenting that "I aimed for your heart, but I just hit your butt cheeks," or, in the persona of a (heavily vocodered) youth-group member, promising to "sex you up, but respectfully." Not very intellectual. But it is a clever combination--the music's catchiness is real, but it's presented with enough ironic distance to draw in people who hate dance music.

The spider party goes down Thursday night at Mercy, rock o'clock. Also on the bill are Jason Jones & The Tits. Take a look after the jump for a little piece of SHSP history.

If you haven't seen SHSP live, your life is missing something. There, however, has been a bit of confusion about this bill because it is so awesome that it has been blowing people's minds, so here is the actual bill:
Derrick Brown 'SCANDALABRA' book release party, featuring Derrick Brown
The Tits
Red White Blue
Jacob Jones and the Shelby Street Revival
DANCE MAKE-OUT show with Spring Hill Spider Party
Doors at 7. Show starts at 8. Drinks from Drew & Shelby all night. Party with Derrick, Jacob & The Tits at the bar and then maybe Big Red after the show.
