Whatevs The Nashville Nightlife Awards Are...Back?

So the biggest local music-related awards of the, um...month are back yet again. OK. I admit I'd never heard of these things until about a week ago. But that doesn't mean we can't stuff the ballot box with votes for Chris Crofton! The official Nashville Nightlife Awards ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 27 at Mercy Lounge and will feature performances from Crofton, Heypenny, AutoVaughn and some others.
According to their MySpace page, the awards are "brought to you by Vibe Agency, Movement Nashville, and a committee." The nominees are pretty Movement Nashville-heavy, and some of the categories are a bit WTF-y. Best couple? I encourage writing in "Adam Gold & Bono." Metromix will apparently be "honoring the winners." If "honoring" means "scoring loads of booze and blow for," then I'm down. Vote here.

This awards deal is a total farce. It's a bunch of whatevers coming up with an excuse to honor themselves. Not that there is anything wrong with loads of booze and blow. I'm just saying, "Who gives a fuck?"
You're confused, dude. Sean Moloney is a different guy. He blogs for the Nashville Steam, a local sauna/hot tub website.
I think they misspelled at least half the names on there... I saw them all over the place. But everyone should write-in Kyle Hamlett & Kelli Shay Hix as couple of they year. I mean, come on... you can't argue with that.
Steve, you should know me well enough to know that I can argue with anything...Adam Gold & Bono are definitely the couple of the year.

As for the nominees, Movement came on board to help out the awards. The categories we are responsible for creating surround music and venues pretty much only. There are other folks in the community that have a tradition of voting for "coolest couple" regardless of what some of us might think (or spew over).
We really tried to include a bunch of folks in the nominations this year, but with short notice, we did what we could. You will notice a number of names on that list that aren't MN this year, in fact a good 65-70% of them. There is only 15 bands in MN after all.
Next year we hope you guys are interested in getting on board to help out. This way we can make it even more well rounded.

As long as it's not spelled "Shawn" or "Mahoney", I really don't care. I was hoping that the technicality would get me out of being and egotist, but ah well...
Obviously, these things are impossible to do without having someone complain about omissions. But seriously guys, not a mention of How I Became the Bomb, The Features, The Protomen? How I Became the Bomb, especially, is a pretty striking omission.
yep - you're dead right, man. again - we had such little time to do it, otherwise we would have included them by name. for this reason i built the "other" box for people to vote for who they wanted and my dumbass forgot to add. also, I had survey limitations :/
MY BAND ROCKS THE SHIT OUT OF SMYRNA EVERY NIGHT, AND NO ONE EVERY TALKS ABOUT US ON HERE. BUT WE SHOULD HAVE BE NOMINATED FOR THIS BECAUSE WE ROCK EVERY NIGHT IN SMYRNA WITH OUR OWN BADASS ORIGINAL MUSIC, PLUS SOME PRETTY SWEET DMB & 3DOORESDOWN COVERS. REALLY, THIS CITY IS SO INCEST. WE ROCK EVERY NIGHT AND THE CROWDS LOVE US BUT NASHVILLE CREAM, NASHVILLE NIGHT LIFE, NEXTBIG NASHVILLE DOESNT CARE.
WELL WE SURE AS HELL WONT BE AT YOUR DUMBASS AWARD CEREMONY. MAYBE WHY DONT YOU COME TO SMYRNA TO CHECK US OUT!
I am dissappointed by the omission of roman candle, all we seabees, eureka gold, we were the states, etc... But besides the omissions, it seems as all the same bands are up for every catagory... Its silly, in my opinion... Either way: vote for my boyfriend for front man of the year... Cheers.
Dean... if you had such little time to do it, maybe you should have put it off until you could do it right. As it is, this looks pretty ridiculous and amateur.
My most notable ommisions... Timmons under Music Advocate, and Stabert as Most Fervent Obama Supporter.
Darrin... As with many things like this, there is a team of folks and the deadline was given to me as was the list of nominees that were compiled by a team. I added what I could to those lists, but again there is always folks that wont get put in the appropriate category.
ie: Janet is in the blogger category. Janet is amazing in what she does and it was most notable in her blogging. As for Stabert - where is she? She dropped off the planet.
Anyhow, the other box was placed there to help catch folks that were not nominated. I hope you have the sense to understand that I did what I could, but I volunteer my time and have a day gig.

HA. It doesn't matter what we try to do. People will always be pissed. I learned this valuable lesson a few years ago. For what it's worth, the last installment of NNA was much less diverse and if you all had known about it, the thread would still be receiving comments on the daily. One band even made fun of Heather Byrd last year and I know how much you cats and kittens love that.
Anyway, I apologize that the list isn't more all-encompassing. We aren't claiming to be the end-all, be-all in the music scene. This awards show is mostly just an excuse to get smashed and laugh at friends and enemies. I especially apologize to BlueDrew about HIBTB not being nominated. I think we all know that HIBTB would have been honored to be nominated and probably would have even performed for free at the show. Right? For that I apologize.
We are all volunteering our time to work on this event. Hell, there will even be TROPHIES given out to the winners! Dipped in gold. Adam Gold.
I was just thinking, with the "other" box available - you guys could really make this what you want. If you want someone to get recognized for stuff - tell everyone to vote for them. I am all about it anyway :)
