Well, check out The Walkmen. Just a few months ago the NY stalwarts were playing The Basement with The Privates as their backing band. Now, they're hitting the road and playing above ground at large, large places like the Constant Convocation Center (?) with none other than Nashville's own Kings of Leon.
As you may have heard, KOL, in addition to playing Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party (where they made quite an impression on Taylor Swift--more on that later) picked up the all-important Grammy for Best Rock, Pop, R&B or Other Performance by a Duo, Trio, Quartet or Group With Vocals and Instruments or Just Vocals, for their ode to enflamed genitalia (or incendiary stairs), "Sex on Fire."
Not that The Walkmen don't deserve this kind of sweet arena-sized opening gig on their own merits, but doesn't this feel just a bit like the Kings (or their people) are trying to buy a little cred with the hipster press? Not that they need Pitchfork, or give a shit what they say at this point, but still. Props to them, at any rate, for taking a great band along for the ride.

I have seen many posts here somehow critical of KOL.
Since I like them but I consider myself pretty uneducated when it comes to music, I'd like to know what you (or others) think it is wrong with KOL: the personae, the music, the lyrics?
I don't hate the KOL, but what an opening band! They better not be checking cell phones for times (ala Exit/In show) on this tour or they will be upstaged night after night. This is great news for both bands.
Please stop posting about this crap band. This blog used to be about music in nashville.
You know what I love about Nashville Scene? The consistency. You all are very consistent when it comes to the Kings of Leon bashing and envy. It's really pretty sad, you guys need a new shtick.
Nashville Scene....you can shove it up your asses.
I'm going to assume you wanted to be a musician yourself, but couldn't make it and ended up writing for a shitty internet blog that talks crap about anyone else who has success.
I love how you feel the need to spend so much of your time and energy posting about how much you "hate" KOL.
Personally I find it sick yet hilarious and I'm pretty sure they don't really care what you have to say anymore...
Steve Haruch what a fucking wanker you are. kings of leon are an amazing and successful band, their a million time better than you'll ever be. Annie's right about you wanting to be a musician but you couldn't make it. now you've scooped so low writing shitty internet blogs. stop being so jealous! what is it with America and Nashville? you should be proud of having such a great band. stop listening to Britney Spears and all the other crap and put some decent music in your record collections.
Kings of Leon are complete wankers. You can tell that they are a manufactured band, and that someone writes their songs for them.
They are everything that is wrong with music today. Banal, cheesy CRAP.
Go listen to a Radiohead record for ten minutes, and you'll see the difference.
"Sex on Fire"...LOL!
