Saturday is the new Friday Lite! I could expound, but I'd rather go back to sleep. Here's a list of people playing instruments and singing at various locations:

The Long Players Perform Aretha Franklin's I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You at Mercy Lounge. They might not don Aretha-style inauguration hats, but this is your best shot at seeing some immaculately performed soul this weekend.

Blue Mountain w/Wess Floyd and the Daisycutters & Molly Thomas at The Basement. Given the drunken debauchery that transpired at the newly 4-year-old Basement last night, I'm sure Grimey & Co. will be soldiering through some wicked hangovers.

Yonder Mountain String Band at War Memorial Auditorium. In the words of Chris Parker, YMSB reaches both cowboys and "stoned hacky-sacking hippies getting their jam on."

Hillbilly Casino w/The Blacklist Royals, Hellfire Revival & Murdock at The End.

Other options include Kindling Stone at something called Friends Meeting House, Emanuel Ax playing Brahms at Schermerhorn and local musician Kevin Thornton (maybe getting naked?) in Sex, Dreams & Self Control at Bongo After Hours. If none of these appear to be your speed, you can always watch some ladies bash the hell out of one another. Nashville Rollergirls' season kicks off today at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.

Ladies on wheels. Hillbilly Casino. Brahms. Sounds like a Saturday night to me.
