From the Department of Unconfirmed Rumors That Are Probably Not True: It has been brought to the Cream's attention that the site Eventful had a listing up all day yesterday showing The Black Keys as scheduled performers for the Feb. 14 Dr. Dog show at Mercy Lounge. Dr. Dog--or as I like to call them, Snoop Dre--have toured with The Black Keys before, so the idea of having them on as a Hallmark Day surprise isn't terribly far fetched. Maybe they could even collaborate on a live cover of Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog."
The Mercy fired over an email saying, "We keep getting calls about it. It is not real as far as anyone who works here knows--unless they are planning to be the secret opening act for Dr. Dog. If that's the case, we still don't know anything about it." One source close to The Black Keys said, unequivocally, that the band is not playing, but that this could (possibly) be a Dan Auerbach solo appearance. Another source close to the band said, "I don't know shit about shit." Eventful has since updated the status of the event as "withdrawn." However, the Black Keys are also listed as performers on Tourfilter and Bands in Town (although I assume all these sites get their information from the same source). So, does anyone know anything about this? Does anyone care?

I care.
In fact, that would pretty much make my valentine's day.
Don't misunderstand me. I think both bands are great, but as if Dr. Dog wasn't a big enough reason to bring an overwhelming heaping of morons to the Mercy Lounge, The Black Keys would likely triple that heaping, and the Mercy Lounge already has an alarming amount of douchebag regulars. I've seen both bands before. Maybe I should avoid this perfect storm of addlepated squares.
As a Black Keys fan who's not an addlepated moron, I gotta say that I'm confused by most of their fan base. Frat boys seem to be mysteriously attracted to their music, a large subset of actual music fans with good taste seem to be (just as mysteriously) convinced that it's boring & sounds like Eric Clapton. & yet I know for a fact that they're good! HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD?
