From the Department of Only in Nashville: Mysti Mayhem Visits Curb Records

Posted by Steve Haruch on Wed, Feb 4, 2009 at 10:31 AM

I wonder how many times this happens in an average Nashville week: singer-songwriter walks into record label office, guitar in hand, and plays an unsolicited audition. Considering that within a week of my moving to Nashville a delivery driver included a writers night flyer with my pizza, I'm guessing it's fairly common. And the guy sitting behind the Curb Records front desk in this video doesn't look terribly surprised (except maybe by the video camera, at first). Personally, I can't take any song seriously that uses the word "thong," but then again I like A Minor Forest. All I know is that this video went up yesterday and has already been viewed 13,000 times, so that probably means something.

The last 20 seconds of this video is priceless. She definately has a little edge to her!

When I was working in a studio on music row, we'd occasionally have people walk in wanting to peddle their wares. Maybe once every couple weeks, but mind you these were people who didn't understand the difference between a recording studio and a record label.

I am not sure how many times it happens. Songs, much like life, shouldn't be taken too seriously. That is why, my friend, this singer/songerwriter wrote it in. Please purchase my album on http://www.cdbaby.com/mystimayhem and don't forget to subscribe to my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/mystimayhem
Thanks for the article, Steve.

Yes, sure, that happens every day in Nashville. But how often does it happen by a singer who obviously has the chops and vocals to knock every one of those gold records from the wall of that office? The real pity here is that they let her get away!

Hey I LOVE Mysti! She rocks! I'm a country fan mostly but I love the edge and originality to her music. ANY record label would be smart to pick her up, there's some real talent there.

This girl is far from the usual ho-hum industry formula type - I say she's a breath of fresh air - much needed in that musty Nashville cookie cutter drawer.

The reason the video's received so many views is simple, the girl's got talent AND has balls! Why didn't Curb Records swoop her up as they should have?? Well, listen to the lyrics of the song Mystic is singing...It pretty much says it all

Mysti Mayhem has a wonderful heart and soul and not to mention a WONDERFUL voice that is well backed by her musical talents. She is livley, fun, young and intergetic. I have her cd and listen to it everyday. She is a star that shines on her own. Curb needs to see the light she gives on and share it with the world. Mysti I love you and wish you luck at all this!!!

Not only does the guy behind the counter look
terribly surprised, he also looks a little
scared!!! Scared that if he started rocking
out to this incredible performer in front of
him; he just might loose his worthy desk job!!!
(Ouch!!! The music industry!!!) I myself think
that it is bologna (for lack of what I really
want to say) that a song or artist for that
matter could be judged buy one everyday used
word...."My guitar doesn't come equiped with a
matching THONG",....I wonder if thong was the
only word heard in these INCREDIBLY TRUE
LYRICS???? The truth hurts they often say, and
truth is what Mysti Mayhem dishes out,
unfortunately not everyone can handle it!!!
BTW I just checked the views on this particular
vid "PISSIN ON NASHVILLE" 17,718, Does this
mean something??? Why yes it does....Mysti
Mayhem has the ability to pull people in and
keep them coming back for more....check out
Mysti's other videos (filmed and edited mainly
by Mysti herself) at....
http://www.youtube.com/user/mystimayhem
(NOTICE HOW MANY VIEWS SOME OF HER OTHER WORK
HAS HAD)

This might be a regular event there in Nashville, but to have a talent like this one walk in, and to let her walk away... Geesh!
Mysti is a talent, she worked the acoustics of the studio like a charm, and that wasn't a bland performance, it had energy, spark, and bite. CURB records, wake up and smell the talent!

Well, if that girl dont make it there, she will make it somewhere!
Apparently Youtube is where the talent is .... Hell, Curb had talent under its nose and couldn't smell it....
Good Luck Mrs. Mayhem, I like underdog stories. I want to hear more! I will be tuning in! I shall find you on the interwebs!

This is a lady with an amazing amount of style. In a perfect world where real talent was recognised she would be winning the grammys and playing the major arenas.
Keep up the great work Mysti!

I've seen Mysti play a couple of times - favourite gig (so far) has to be The Bourbon St Blues Bar in Amsterdam (the night after she played the Paradiso) and she was simply awesome! I could listen to Mysti sing for hours!
Go Mysti!
