When I was a youngster I read Thrasher magazine a lot, and along with their letters they would publish crazy, drawn-all-over envelopes people would send in. I won't bore you with how much mail I get, but I will say I get a lot, and when someone puts a little extra effort into catching my eye, I notice. Doesn't mean I'll like the music, or even have time to listen to it closely. But when I got this envelope from someone named Tony Youngblood, it kinda made my day.
Basically, if you've got a nice package, I'll look at it.

Obviously a Toy Machine/skateboard art fan of the 90s. *yawn*
There has to be good art SOMEWHERE in Nashville.
Coffee shop art is so disappointing in this town. Can someone please direct me to the good stuff!?
I want to see something stimulating! Impressive! Interesting! Real TALENT!
Not just the same simple crap in 30 different colors. I want some art that doesn't look like it came from Urban Outfitters.
Challenge yourselves, people.
I think you should make a call to all Nashville artists to send you cool envelopes. Post the best.
"if you have a nice package i'll look at it"
see you church street then playa.
man.
we could take a number of cues from Thrasher. remember those Skate Rock compilations? and "Scarfing Material" or whatever, where people sent in disgusting recipes? my friends and i would always make and eat them regardless of how gross they were.
i actually had a subscription. and i think i read it more for the music than the skating.
MAD Magazine used to feature a cool envelope every month too. i miss the old MAD...
thanks for sharing!
Eric,
Some of Nashville's coffee houses may surprise you. I really enjoyed the dinosaurs and other creepy drawings hanging at Bongo Java west.
Don't give up on our city.
I even remember the "shark taco" T-shirt. Any time you want to have a Thrasher reminiscing session, casio, just let me know.
"If you have a nice package, I'll look at it." It must run in the family, cuz your mom's the same way.
Hi! I am the artist that did the envelope for the talented musician Tony Youngblood. I really appreciate you posting it and I am glad you enjoyed it! Also, it's funny that first commenter mentioned Toy Machine... I did help them with a skate video doing an animation years back in Philly. Thanks again for the support!
Many kudos to Steve for posting Jessica's drawing. Another hand-drawn envelope went the way of Mr. Patrick R. at the Scene, so check his out too. There's also more art on the pages inside and the cd album art was also done by Mrs. Hill. Jessica's work has been featured at Bongo Java West so those dinosaur paintings someone mentioned may have been hers. Her artwork is on permanent display at Fido and will be up later this month at the Belcourt. Check it out!
Best,
Tony Youngblood

Oh yeah!! Tony Youngblood!! I saw him perform at the Basement a couple of months ago. He put on a great show, and yes, that is a nice package.
