Muxtape Is Back, Sort of [Updated]

Posted by Steve Haruch on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 2:27 PM

Muxtape, the online mix-making site, is back online, only different. You'll still be able to make muxes, but only of songs that are available on the site. Right now that's only about 36 songs (by the likes of Of Montreal, Dan Deacon and Girl Talk to name three), but apparently they will start letting bands sign up (for free) starting next week. That will mean more songs and, eventually, even more songs. Of course, this won't be as cool as it was when you could upload any old thing and make a mix, but it is cooler than it was when the site got taken down entirely. (Told you so.) If you have no idea what I'm talking about, click on the word "here." (Thanks, Ryan.) Update: Sasha Frere-Jones has an interview with Muxtape founder Justin Ouellette.
