I was thinking about writing a post called "Bands I Hope Play Nashville in 2009 but Probably Won't," and I was going to include new Merge signee Telekinesis. Well, shit. Looks like they'll be coming to Elliston Place this spring, along with new Barsuk kids Say Hi.

Here's the song "Coast of Carolina" off Telekinesis, which comes across like maybe a less oh-so-clever Graham Smith or a less bummed-out FM Cornog, rocking out with Beulah back before they got baroque. Like Kleenex Girl Wonder and East River Pipe, Telekinesis is a one-man band, at least in the studio. Michael Benjamin Lerner played near everything while recording the new album with Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla.

Speaking of Death Cab, you can definitely hear their influence on Say Hi, but at least it's the era of DCFC that I like. Here's a song.
