Lambchop to Play The 5 Spot Saturday?

Being that it's the only rock club in Five Points, The 5 Spot is by default the Madison Square Garden of East Nashville. Despite this distinction, the lovable establishment is, shall we say, less than dilligent when it comes to getting their listings in to The Scene on time to make the weekly print edition of the paper. This week they missed the cut by a matter of minutes, which is a shame because they have an all-killer no-filler onslaught of local favorites on deck to melt faces in the eight days to come. Among the listings we got: Lylas, Hotpipes, Danger Bear, Tallest Trees, Caitlin Roseand--most notably--Lambchop.

Porter Hall Tennessee is gonna give the "Chop" their big break by letting 'em open up their show on Saturday night. Or so we thought.

The announcement of a Lambchop opening set at The 5 Spot seemed a bit a odd, so we put in a call to co-owner Todd Sherwood--and sure enough, he gave us a confirmation. Shortly thereafter we were told by a source close to the band that they would not be appearing and in fact will be at Chicago's Old Town School of Music on Saturday night. Within minutes of that revelation, I received a text message from Todd:

I screwed up, it's Porkchop. Not Lampchop. Stupid Porter Hall, told me Lambchop.

So let me get this straight. There's a band in Nashville called Porkchop? Well, not quite. The Porkchop in question is local blues man Mark Porkchop Holder. So, to all you Lambchop fans, sorry to get your hopes up. This Porkchop guy is actually pretty good, though, and, like Kurt Wagner, wears glasses and emotes while sitting down. So skip your dinner plans and get there early on Saturday night. The 5 Spot serves up a mean chicken salad sandwich, so let that suffice and provide sustenance for the endless rounds of brews that are gonna carry you through Danger Bear.

Here are this week's listings:

Thurs. 1/22 Founding Fathers w/Jabe and the all Night Circus & Madi Diaz 9 p.m. $5

Fri. 1/23 Lylas w/Prabir and the Substitutes & Hotpipes 9 p.m. $5

Sat. 1/24 Porter Hall, TN. w/Lambchop Porkchop & Dangerbear 9 p.m. $5

Mon. 1/26 Keep on Move'n dance party 9 p.m. $3

Wed. 1/28 Old Time Jam 8 p.m. Free

Thurs. 1/29 9:00 $5 Tallest Trees w/Caitlin Rose 9 p.m. $5

Yea Mark Holder is a badass! I love his stuff! We have done several shows with The Black Diamond Heavies. This is the first we have played with Porkchop solo. It's gonna be fun. He goes on first, so get there early...

Yeah, is the $3 something new? If it's true, it's bad news for Monday nights. Less people will come (yes, even though it's only $3) and the party will suffer.

$3 is what it said in the email. Could definitely be a typo.

Well I should have said stupid "Danger Bear, told me they got Lambchop." Which makes me double stupid since I'm in Danger Bear. It's been a ruff week with too much fun here, gimme a break.
The Monday nights are $3 for people that we don't know or don't live in the neighborhood. Most people get in for free.
Friday night's gonna be great. Prabir and the Substitutes is one of my favorite out of town bands. I usually avoid touring bands, but they are always welcome.

Unfortunately Hotpipes will NOT be playing tomorrow at the 5 Spot w/ LYLAS and Prabir. There was a death in Justin's family and he will be attending the funeral. GO TO THIS SHOW THOUGH as both bands are f#$#ing awesome as if you didn't know that already.

Yea Todd, I figured it was a simple mistake. But leave it to the Scene to back hand it into some B.S. Oh gotta love em...
