So news came today of yet another of those "top cities in America" lists of lists that you see all the time. This one's by the serial listings website Eventful and, as you might expect, it ranks cities by their eventfulness. As usual with these kinds of lists, Nashville is somewhere near the back of the pack, when it's part of the pack at all. We're the 20th most-eventful city on the overall list (up from 25th last year), but only make it onto one of the sublists. Not surprisingly, that list is "Top Cities for Music Lovers," where we rank No. 7. (Seems a little low for "Music City," no? Maybe we need a commission or something.)
Of course, the catch here is that on this list, "eventfulness" is actually Eventful-ness--meaning that the rankings are based solely on the number of listings that appear on the Eventful sites. (It says as much in the "methodology" section of their press release.)
Referring only to your own data and then saying you have some sort of authoritative list is, well, kind of how the Internet works these days. Anyway, it's interesting to note that the Nashville Eventful page lists Mercy Lounge as one of its top-rated local "hotspots," but does not include tonight's Cream show in its music listings. Not that we're perfect, either, but that leads me to believe that there are plenty of other shows that they are not aggregating as well.
