Your Cream Weekend Planner: Young Jeezy, Ra Ra Riot, Weiners and More

Posted by Steve Haruch on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 9:00 AM

Quiet? Entertaining? Blogworthy?

How's your weekend looking, Nashville? Plenty going on, if the ice or the cops don't get ya.

Friday, 12th

Arty indie rockers Ra Ra Riot play Exit/In tonight. Check out our feature on them here.

Also: three kinds of ramshackle to pick from on this evening.

Those Darlins, Deertick and MEEMAW hold it down at The 5 Spot, over East Nashville way.

If that's a bit too youthful-enthusiasm-ramshackle for your tastes Douglas Corner has Malcolm Holcombe for you--more of a grizzled-and-wise-to-the-world ramshackle. (9 p.m.)

Last but not least ramshackle, Totally Snake and The Alcohol Stuntband throw down at The Basement, which will be a cellar full of noise and yelling and possibly cans of PBR lodged in awkward places.

Saturday, 13th

Halcyon Bike Shop opens officially, though it's been open for a minute now. The Mattoid, Diarama and Weiners play the party. Capris are great for biking! The shop and the party are at 1118 Halcyon Ave.

If you want less "uh, yeah" and more "aw yeah" in your evening, then get thee to the Wildhorse, where Young Jeezy will rap about "The Recession."

If you're tired of hearing about the recession, don't turn on the TV, or listen to the radio, or read a newspaper. What you could do is check out Quiet Entertainer at The 5 Spot. Is his shit blogworthy? (See above.) You be the judge.

Finally: R.I.P. Bettie Page.

Quiet Entertainer is really good. It's unique and clever so check it out. Hopefully he brings out some special guests b/c that is always really fun. The myspace tracks don't do him justice and why did you already basically set him up to be ridiculed by the way you worded this thread?

this is hilarious.
was the lead at 1:05 suppose to be out of key?
that combined with his awkward mime act should be landing him spots at zanies, not the 5 spot.

WEEKEND PLANNER ADDENDUM:
THE best show of the weekend — Mercy Lounge, Saturday, WINTER OF DREAMZ:
How I Became the Bomb & The Protomen with Jensen Sportag and with late-night DJ set from DPAUL.
$2.50 pints of Sweetwater 420, and I'll call you a cab if you need one. Oh yeah, it's gonna be nice outside that night, so we'll make it snow indoors.

Really? THE best show of the weekend? Doing coke with you while we watch the same 3 bands that are constantly playing? Oh wait it ends in a Z that makes it relevant.

QE is tre rad. I was surprised to find out that he had never heard The Orb. I wasn't surprised to find out that he's a huge Tangerine Dream fan. Yep that's right, Tangerine mother fuckin' Dream - totally like seein' fucken aliens.

Methadone:
The indoor snow is not some vailed reference to cocaine. It is literal, i.e. we have a film-quality snow machine. If you were at either of last weekend's shows, you'd know. So stop by for this one.
Also, though I put away my bad habits long ago, I still am a pretty fun guy to party with.
Furthermore, if you haven't got the whole "Winter of Dreamz"/"ends in a z" joke yet and think it's some attempt at artificially creating relevance, you're probably not going to get it. So just assume that here at Mercy Lounge, we want to keep things totally x-treme, so we will continue to misspell things intentionally. Stop by Christmas Eve for our KRAYZEE KRISTMAZ KOOKIE SPEKTAKULA! There's no cover. We'll be opening around 9 pm just for you.

quiet entertainer is so unique and, well, entertaining. he's great at crowd participation - something most nashville acts suck dick at - the music is always changing and evolving, and he attracts such a diverse group of people. in a city that is known for music, has thousands (yes, literally thousands) of SHITTY bands and outrageously stuck-up, boring and bland partygoers, this guy, his music and his crowd are a welcome fucking change.
