One Reason to Actually Go Downtown: Aerial on Sunday Nights

We all know that anyone who's lived here for one hot minute stops going downtown for entertainment unless you absolutely have to. Non show-going reasons to get dragged down to tourist boot-scootville include your company holiday party at the Melting Pot, or a wacky ghost tour, meeting someone who actually digs hanging out at the Beer Sellar, or, you know, visiting your DUI attorney. (Yes, the honky tonks are good for an annual pilgrimage or three, or anytime you have out of town guests, but even the most devoted trad-country lovers among us find the inevitable drunkards, buskers and lack of parking reason enough to kick it anywhere but there.)

That said, Broadway rooftop bar Aerial is making a decent case for enduring the hassle. I'd only been there once, the night before Halloween, and it was a good time. But I wasn't totally convinced I'd become a repeat offender. And I've never managed to make it out to a Happy Valley party.

Then I just kind of ended up there last Sunday night--I believe the hip-hop/DJ event is called Sunday School--and witnessed one pretty bad-ass dance-off. Pictures after the jump.
