New Venue Alert: Underworld

Posted by Matt Sullivan on Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 2:01 PM

This blog has gotten flak in the past for posting about shows the day they are happening. (If only there were some place with a updated list of things happening in the area, or perhaps a free alternatively weekly magazine with the week's events physically listed.) But I'm here to lower the bar even farther and post an entry about a show that happened last night.

I saw the Tits for the first time, and I know everyone who reads this has probably already seen them a dozen times, but I was pretty blown away. A new band called The Wrong Kids played and at times reminded me a lot of Television, or maybe CCR, and I usually like when I'm reminded of Television and perhaps CCR. But the real point of this is that it all happened at a new venue called the Underworld. It's tucked away behind what used to be a vintage clothing store, in between Jimmy John's and Chili's on West End. Imagine the Springwater without smoke and with liquor and in your basement. I think they're having shows on Thursdays, but I'm finding no calendars online.

is that the same space where the berlin/minimal techno people had been hosting their monthly parties. if so, that place is cool. although the ceiling is really low.
