Golden Animals Today at Grimey's, Tonight at Exit/In [Updated]

Posted by Steve Haruch on Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 9:00 AM

Tonight, $7 will get you into Exit/In to see Golden Animals, Nite Nite & Austin Manuel. From our Critics' Picks:

Golden Animals' psychedelic folk-blues is so persuasive you expect singer/guitarist Tommy Eisner to arrive with beads around his neck in an afghan coat and a pair of tinted John Lennon granny glasses. Eisner's sultry croon bears passing resemblance to Jim Morrison, and the Animals' full-length debut Free Your Mind and Win a Pony relies on similarly shambolic, droning grooves. His guitar unfurls dark mesas of reverb, while drummer Linda Beecroft not only drives this ramshackle chuck wagon but also proffers sweet, girlish backing vocals. The duo's vintage sound still reeks of 40-year-old sativa--and probably more recent inhalations, judging from hazy-headed lyrics like, "She swallows the sunshine / I harvest the moon." Their ambling, light-hearted shuffle, however, purveys enough charm to overlook the cheese. --Chris Parker

You can also go see them for free at Grimey's, 6 p.m.

Update: Apparently the band will not be able to make the in-store. (See comment below.)
