"In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin." (IMDB.)
So let's say you're an indie-rock loving misfit dealing with small-town misery. Do you listen to Turbo Fruits? Apparently so. (Or at least three of their songs are playing in the background during important moments in the movie about your life, and you go to a party where they're playing.) Maybe, as a way to beat the humdrum, you get into roller derby, and Har Mar Superstar is a ref in your league, and you start dating this guy who's in a band and he's Nashville singer-songwriter First Name Last Name. I mean, Landon "we have hipsters and horses" Pigg.
Sounds awesome, right?
Mark Mothersbaugh, late of Devo, is writing the score (Drew Barrymore directs) to Whip It!--the feel-awkward comedy of the summer. Or fall. Of 2009. Gene Shalit already likes it! Volcano!
