Mercy Announces Winter Concert Series: Casio Fears the Worst

As an official casualty of the Summer of Dreamz, I've warned you all several times against tempting fate and trying to control your destinies by redubbing various seasons with names ending in unnecessary Zs. And yet, it appears some of you simply refuse to listen. In spite of my many cautionary tales, Mercy Lounge, in cooperation with Sweetwater 420, has chosen to title its upcoming winter concert series "Winter of Dreamz." Having witnessed firsthand the kind of carnage that can ensue when you carelessly toy with these unnatural forces and unneeded consonants, I can't help but fear for the future of Cannery Row. Yes, they are the reigning king of Nashville rock shows. Yes, the lineups they've got scheduled look freaking awesome, and yes, they've both tempted me to the very core and completely negated my rants against the futility of corporate sponsors with $2.50 pints of Sweetwater 420. But I still can't help but think they're flying too close to the sun on waxy wings. Their failure to include the world's greatest albino rocker, Edgar Winter, only makes things look worse.

Regardless, I guess we'll just have to see how it all goes down, won't we? This is what they've got in store:

Friday, December 5, 9 p.m.: KinderCastle CD release show w/Parachute Musical & Noises 10. $7 (21+), $10 (18–20).

Saturday, December 6, 9 p.m.: Movement Nashville brings you Space Capone & Kyle Andrews w/Elle Macho ($7, $10).

Saturday, December 13, 9 p.m.: How I Became the Bomb & The Protomen w/Jensen Sportag ($7, $10).

Saturday, December 20, 9 p.m.: The Holly House Winter Formal feat. Eureka Gold, Shoot the Mountain & many special guest ($5, $8).

Let's just hope it turns out better than what follows this cut....

Ah, that video feels all too familiar. Messrs. Gold and Graves, you were never 11-year-old girls.

$7 (21+), $10 (18–20)
Otherwise, we would list it as $7 advance | $10 day of show

A further note:
$10 for a local show is actually not that crazy.
Mike Grimes has often pointed out that the cost of going to a local rock show is one of the few things that has never adjusted for inflation over the years. I remember 13 or 14 years ago going to see bands like Crop Circle Hoax or Fun Girls from Mt. Pilot at Lucy's Record Shop for around $5, which is what local rock shows still generally cost.
Everything that the bands need to perform and that the venue needs to operate costs a great deal more these days, yet the cost of the show for the patron has not risen. So it is a bit irritating when people bitch about cover charges. Frankly, $7 for HIBTB & Protos is a great deal. I really considered $10, but I knew that it would have scared people off, which is a bit bothersome.
When people complain about this sort of thing, I wonder if they are the type of person who only tips on every other beer. Whether it is the local band or the bartender, I can assure you that that extra couple of dollars mean more to them than they ever should to the patron.
Either way, as attendees of local rock shows, we should all be happy that covers are as low as they are; so do your part and buy some merch from the band and some booze from the bar and tip the bartender while you're there.

Hey Seth, why don't you make another boring ass Vimby piece about this? You know, really give it a good kick towards being something shitty. That'd be icing of the cake.
Love,
Deez Nutz

ok. how about you charge me $4 and i give the bartender a buck for opening a fucking beer and the other 2 bucks go to the bands? everybody wins and you still get to heroically defend a flawed business model. that'll make me feel better about "doing my part."

funky... my white belt is powerless now that it's too cold to wear capris. but otherwise... that's what i'm talking about. i'm so glad that someone else out there who is making the kind of effort i do is in a position to judge me. otherwise, i'd feel a little invalidated. it's almost enough to make a guy want to quite being creative forever (it's lyk i seen fucken alienz). booyakasha.
