How I Became the Bomb: 'Salvage Mission' Video

Posted by Steve Haruch on Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:33 AM

Here's the new video for How I Became the Bomb's "Salvage Mission." In a word: awesome. With all due respect, this is probably the best-looking video by a local band that I've seen. Paynter and Kingsbury have done a stellar job, so to speak. And when the explosions(!) synch(!) with the strings in the bridge-y middle section, it's just that much sweeter. I was gonna say something about Porkins, but I don't want to spoil the end for you. Woops. (Heads-up: WOTT.)

I was hoping to get comparisons to Biggs Darklighter or maybe Wedge Antilles, but I knew the Porkins Parallels were inevitable! Blast!
We're really proud of the video and hope plenty of people get to see it. Many thanks are due to Robert Paynter and Jonny Kingsbury, as well as to Jamie Holland and Michael Eades, who have put together the excellent site. Since I'm thanking folks, Reid Shippen and Craig Alvin did the incredible mixes, with producer John Baldwin mastering, which all of you should go download!
Anyways, thanks for the kind words. We're working on the next video, presently.

I dunno know, between the launch tube and the circular enemy fighters I'd say this is more Battlestar than A New Hope...where's Stabert? Somebody back me up on this...

All I know is that my brother carved a tombstone for Jon Burr to be used in the next video. A dead dandy seems like it should make all you Bomb haters excited.

Well, the way the ship gets lit up, it just seems more like Porkins' demise than Wedge Antilles. And yeah, Sean, the launch tube is totally Battlestar but the strafing run (Porkins' specialty) and the interior superstructure fly-through are totally SW. I'm a dork.

Ya, I'm with ya on that one...I hope their next video is a tribute to Voltron.

what a fantastic video for such a horrible band and cringe inducing song. props to the people that did the effects for the video.

I believe you see 2001 (double doors seem amiliar.), Battlestar, (a jump to light speed which can be seen in many SciFi classics.), The Last Starfighter (videogame ships), Trek (DS9 i believe) and Star Wars. The last scenes i cant pinpoint.
But all this is bantha fodder.
Just the introduction of a few plastic toy dinosaurs would have ended it well.
