(A Few) New Kids on the Block: Americana Music Festival honors Jason and the Scorchers and takes steps toward courting younger audiences. (Sept. 17-20. Jason and the Scorchers play Mercy Lounge Thursday, 18th w/Langhorne Slim.) Electronic Gospel: David Byrne with and without Brian Eno. (Playing Monday, 22nd at The Ryman.) Sincerity, Sadness and Glamour: Conor Oberst and Jenny Lewis find themselves drawn to the South. (Playing Sunday, 21st at The Ryman.) Worthy of a Song: Langhorne Slim. (Playing Thursday, 18th at Mercy Lounge, supporting Jason and the Scorchers.) In the Spin: Next Big Nashville...oh yeah. Check out the NBN slideshow, too. You might also check out P.J. Tobia's cover story this week, about the life and tragic death of hit maker Phil Gernhard, who produced everything from the Zodiacs' "Stay" in 1960 to Rodney Atkins' "Cleaning This Gun."
