We do the Next Big Nashville throwdown in this week's cover story. We break down the action night-by-night, so check it: Thursday; Friday; and Saturday. (Playing everywhere, every night.)
Gliding On: Dobro master Jerry Douglas gives (even more) to the music he loves. (Playing Tuesday, 16th and Tuesday, 30th at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum.)
In The Spin: Ben Folds Philharmonic, Dr. Dog, Delta Spirit, Squeeze and more.
Showing 1-16 of 16
It was really cool of the Scene to forget the Grand Palace showcase at the End entirely. You would think Glossary would get just a little respect?
I don't remember seeing anything about The Glib either, give out the props.
Thats probably because both of those bands suck and the Scene was trying to be nice about it.
jesus. why don't you cry about it. Glossary gets shitloads of coverage on this blog. you probably see them 20 times a year - same with the Glib. Squeeze playing the Ryman and Ben Folds at Schermerhorn doesn't happen quite as often.
They omit one show and you act like the Cream has forsaken these bands since day one.
seems like if people aren't bitching about Cream only covering certain bands, they're bitching because they left them out. seriously, does anyone actually come to this blog to do something besides complain?
boo at the artist passes/swag bag this year. last year's was wayyyy cooler
I wouldn't expect coverage because this was just kind of an experiment, but I would like to tip the hat to Grimey's and Charlie Rauh for throwing an excellent Ambient Night on Monday. Call It Anything, Heathern Haints, Native Plain Community and Schenke/Rauh/Deirdre were all really great.
I actually come here to read about the Nashville Music Scene a lot and very rarely post because this blog does a good job. That's why I found it so strange that there was a huge write up on "guy-liner" and the Cannery but nary a mention of Glossary, a great band who garners national attention and has been around for over a decade. I wasn't chastising the Cream as a whole, just pointing out to those that may not know, they are playing tonight as well in case "guyliner" isn't your thing. Sickofitall, did you take your medicine today? It's just a blog, no one was insulting you, were they? I was just trying to relay some information that may have been swept through the cracks and if the tone was a bit snarky, it was only out of disbelief that Glossary (Grand Palace as a whole) weren't even mentioned... after all it's not like it's a normal show on a Wed at the Springwater, it is Next Big Nashville, right? ... something should have been said.
Wearing make-up has such an effect on the music that they had to cover that first and foremost. I mean, who cares what it SOUNDS LIKE as long as it looks cool.
Well, technically Manny, you can see racing pigs if you go to either one.
