Cream Calendar / Whatevs Billy Bob and the Boxmasters at Grimey's Sept. 19

Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters describe themselves as a “1960s-era mod band whose upbeat rhythms and infectious arrangements contrast sardonically with the very dark themes they explore lyrically.” Personally, I’d just call them a B- country band with a C- vocalist and some damn goofy lyrics. They’ll be in town for next week’s Americana Music Festival, but most strangely they’ll be opening an in-store with Charlie Louvin at Grimey’s on Sept. 19. They’re playing at 4 p.m. and Louvin’s at 5:30. We won’t delve into the possible meanings of “Boxmasters,” but I do recommend you listen to “I’m Watchin’ the Game” on their MySpace page. Update: Billy Bob and the Boxmasters will not be playing at Grimey's. Mr. Thornton will be signing CDs that day, but his band won't be performing until later that night, September 19 at Cannery Ballroom. 8 p.m. Our thanks to Doyle for straightening things out. Sorry to all you Billy-Bob-aholics.

I'm there fan-boy style. My old band can attest to the fact that while on tour in Arkansas once, I forced them into a detour to Benton, AR JUST to find all the places Sling Blade was filmed. I own pics of the house, the football field, and most importantly..., from inside Hoochie's Dollar Store RIGHT where the potted meat display was.

This is the same guy who was in Bad Santa, right??? HOly shit bad santa was a helluva movie, I loved it! fuckin' funny year round. Too bad burnie mac bit the big one along with J. Ritter, wait a minute, that dwarf dude isn't dead too is he? Good, good movie. LOVE IT.

I have to clarify that Billy Bob & The Boxmasters will NOT be performing at their Grimey's in-store. I'm bummed about this myself. Apparently there was some significant miscommunication about this with Billy Bob's management. I did not find out they weren't going to play until yesterday afternoon. Billy Bob will be signing copies of the Boxmasters' CD or LP and he will sign anything else you bring, including your Bad Santa poster, but you have to buy a Boxmasters CD as well to get his signature. Billy & the Boxmasters WILL be playing at the Cannery Ballroom at 8pm on Fri. Sept. 19.
