Everybody’s favorite pubescent, pop-savvy Franklinites Paramore were recently announced as one of this year’s many MTV Video Music Award performers, along with Rihanna, Jonas Brothers, Pink and #1 class act Kid Rock. They’ll be playing “Misery Business,” which you may have caught The Privates covering quite deftly at the Cream party. Go here to see Paramore emoting and guitar-slinging their way through the video, which has already received a staggering 25 million views—not to mention nearly four times as many comments as the Cream has gotten over the past two years. OMG.

Well, hers isn't all that bad. The problem is when the dudes try to make theirs look like hers.

Jesus. That was the first thing I saw as well. What's wrong with kids these days? And is this what happens when you get enough money to hire a "stylist?"

Playing on MTV with Rhianna, Jonas Bros, Pink, and Kid Rock is so punk rock.

so i have heard this song on the radio several times, and always assumed it was flyleaf.
That song is very catchy. Not so guilty pleasure.

I think its fucking great they went platinum, that is a hell of a notch on the belt any way you look at it.
But IMHO, this is mall rock. Mall rock sells because its aimed directly at the disposable income set. You can even cover Mall Rock songs at local shows if you want, no harm there, but I am not impressed. I can't get into that shit. It's not very original because very original things wouldn't interest the Mall rock set, or the People-Who-Cover-Mall-Rock-Songs set. Not trying to hate for hate's sake but thats the way I sees it.

Yeah, the fact that the Privates covered Paramore for the Cream party means they've lost any shred of credibility they ever had. I used to think they were one of the most exciting, original bands in the scene until Keith told me that they covered that song. Did you hear they also covered Johnny B. Goode? Pathetic.
It was all in good fun, dude. Get over yourself.

I was over myself long before I made that comment Carligula. I like the Privates and I heard it was an awesome party. I just don't like that song very much. The achievement of going platinum is absolutely to be congratulated. I'm just pointing out what I see to be the glorification of Mall Rock. I didn't say they lost credbility. What is credibilty on a local level anyway? Especially in this fuckin town!!!

Man, am I the only one that has a hard time looking at the guys in that band, with their asymmetrical fashion hair? Especially the dude with the beard. It looks like they have something to hide. Like a receding hairline . . .

it's a hard pill to swallow knowing these kids are making serious cash, living out OUR dreams and they are only a fraction of our age writing songs that WE think suck even though they are the ones succeeding exponentially on their sophomore effort, RIOT. 1 million albums sold is as easy as pie in 2008. Wonder how many albums they would have sold if this was 10 years ago... No doubt. I'm walking into spiderwebs just thinking about it.

Yeah, 1 million records is really easy....... don't think you keep up with the way things are going in 2008. Even read SPIN this month and look at Beck's records, most have not sold 1million and this is one of the major artist's of our time.
I don't think they are very good, but... 1 million records is not easy.

Simple Mike are you jealous.I don't know you but I would say you must be in a band that doesn't sell any records. It's kinda weak to put down bands because they're probably doing better than yours.

Sorry to dredge this tepid swamp, but I think I read an article in the NYT a while back about the "deal" these guys got. Anyone else read that? I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but wasn't it some sorta label gets it all kinda thing? I mean...that's a familiar verse, I know, but there was some sorta twist on it all, like they got to pimp you 100% & all you get is (wait for it) a steaming shit haircut. Someone more sober could possibly factcheck, but they (the label) take the merch $, the tour $, everything, but they give you the fool proof success promotional plan. Kinda like the Disney methodology or the Monkees or sumthin'.
I'm just sayin'.
