Here they are. Well, at least most of them. After the jump you'll see 157 of the artists playing this year's Next Big Nashville, set to rule the local music world Sept. 10-14. 50 or so more will be announced early next week. Meanwhile, the actual schedule isn't out yet, so you can't quite plan your club crawl yet, but I hear the schedule will be set up with a web application that will allow you to choose your own schedule and see others' schedules as well. Nifty.
Every year there's a band name or two you haven't seen before, and this year for me it's Homer Hiccolm & The Rocket Boys. (Nice October Sky reference, by the way.) Sure, Superdrag are playing, but what happened to Some Hot Chicks and Bob?
Of course the real question is: Why isn't _____ playing?! The answer: Maybe they are. There are two slots open on Saturday night—one at The End and one at Exit/In—that will go to the lucky bands voted in by Nashville Cream readers. That's right, democracy rears its tight-ass jeans. (This has been in the works for a while, so no, it's not in response to a certain open letter.) We'll take your nominations in the comments, then set up the voting next week. Go!

lots of tiger rock in nashville
I thought 'bear' was the new 'wolf' in band names
It's funny that you mention that, malina, I'm actually holding auditions for my indie-rock super group The TigerBearWolfRock ExplosionExpierience SuperQuintet Plus One.
Maybe this is just a technicality but is Cake Bake Betty a Nashville band (or Festival)? I mean, I realize their "roots" are here and their association with Infinity Cat makes it a tight Nashville association but I believe the principle member of Cake Bake Betty (Lindsey Powell, no?) resides in either Brooklyn or Chicago. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan - just curious what the technical call on that was?
I know they expanded it this year to regional acts and acts that have roots/strong ties to Nashville. Cake Bake Betty's probably more tied to Nashville than a few of the other acts playing, even.
I'll second that motion. Shoot The Mountain might be the best new band in town in a long long while.
yes. shoot the mountain for real. seconding that emotion.
nothing kicks off a local festival better than a film featuring 'batin and eagle breeze! i mean... i'm personally offended neither were asked back.
Jimmy the Lung. (He did a documentary on Ken Berryhill this year that made the Nashville Film Festival. It was good, especially in comparison to the other shameless music doc's out there.) Jimmy also has a sitcom in the works for Music City Arts. And he is a musician, too. Bring on Jimmy the Lung.
How could you not already have "The Mean Tambourines" on here? What the eff man!
The Mean Tambourines. Enough to rock your face off, kick you in the balls and then make love to you!
I am a big " Mean Tambourine " fan and I want to hear them. If you haven't , you are missing a great 3 piece band,,,,
Mean Tambourines... the fact that they're NOT already on is just... well... stupid.
umm where are the mean tambourines on this so called list???
Why the hell isn't MEAN TAMBOURINES playing Next Big? Put them on the show!
Cactus's ? Oh they are in Toronto playing for adoring fans and Universal music. sorry
Meaner than any cymbal would be Mean Tamborines!
put em on a show or else.
for sure Shoot the Mountain
and
The Mean Tambourines
need to play.
Hell yes, I vote Mean Tambourines and Shoot the Mountain.

BP, The Selmanaires were originally slotted to play our showcase, but had a scheduling conflict come up a few weeks ago.
And I'm a big fan of both Mean Tambos and STM. They'd both get my vote, that is assuming that Stories That Live were not in contention. Which it looks like we aren't.
Apparently the rest of my band isn't playing with me...since it's listed as "Wess Floyd" not "Wess Floyd and the Daisycutters" - Thanks NBN...NOW I have to pick up my entire band's bar tab that night.
maybe b/c you're an ass and keep changing your band name, daisycutter. in addition, didn't mean tambourines mention in a previous post that they didn't even submit to play nbn? so why the hell would they be on the list? crybabies
I'm gonna go ahead and say
1.ARMED FORCES
2.MEAN TAMBOURINES
but in all honesty, if i had to choose between the two, it'd be MEAN TAMBOURINES.
those dudes deserve it more than anybody else on that list.
Bobbie,
When have we cried about it? We were apprehensive about paying money for the possibility of MAYBE getting a decent slot. . . stupid yes, and in hindsight maybe we should have registered. . . but now an opportunity presents itself so we may as well jump on it.
Only bands that wasted thier money on a dumbass sonicbids account should get a chance
