Movin' on Over (to the Front of the Book)

Starting next week, I'll no longer be the music editor at the Scene. Taking my place will be Cream regular and current music listings editor Steve Haruch, who will no doubt find the same sick pleasure I did in inspiring both your praise and your wrath, often in the same day (or post.)

You're not getting rid of me completely, though. I'm simply taking a position as a staff writer for the paper so I can cover all sorts of subjects, so you'll mostly see my stories up front instead of in the back. I'll still contribute to the music section, though, and you'll still see me here on the blog. So really, this is a time of great contemplation for all of you, as you'll have to mentally redirect your contentious snipes at him. Who's not covering what you like? Steve Haruch. Who's responsible for all the failures in the local music scene? Steve Haruch. You get the idea.

But seriously. He's a smart dude and a knowledgeable dude. And he actually plays guitar. I know how much that means to you. He won't be turning the music section or this blog into Guitar Player magazine, but he will be bringing the heat. So welcome him.

Congrats Steve!!!!
And thanks for the great work you've done Tracy - I look forward to reading all your non-music contributions too. :)

Congratulations, Steve! And thanks in advance for continuing the longstanding tradition of ignoring our band!
(That was said in jest and not bitterness. After all, we have absolutely zero Orral brothers in our band, so we deserve to be ignored. HA!)
Good luck with the new gigs, everybody.

This is an excellent step in the right direction for the music section. Good job, Scene!

Congratulations, Tracy!
Congratulations, Steve!
Does this mean that music reviews will now feature unnecessary references to the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Bears?

Personally, I think it's yet another in a long line of steps down as far as the Scene's rapidly waning credibility goes, but hopefully it is also heralding in a new era, with local bloggers and zines (who, you know, ARE ACTUALLY EMOTIONALLY INVESTED IN THE MUSIC SCENE here) actively becoming the torchbearers and laborers of love that we all want and need. And hopefully those aforementioned torchbearers will be awesome, and also will continue ignoring the multitude of bands who completely suck but always feel entitled to unwarranted attention because they are in a band that their mothers are all very enthusiastic about.

Hold the phone, Tracy! You mean to tell me you've been writing about the music scene all these years and you don't even play the guitar!?! How can you possibly have an opinion on music if you're not a musician!?
(BTW, Congrats to you and Steve)

Tracy was in a band once. She can't help it if the locals never recognized her musical talent.

Having a reiver that doesn't play music is problem the best unbiased opinion. Those kids still think of music as something as magical.
