You know how sometimes you go to a show and you're like, "Sure, it's great so many people came out, but it would be nice if they actually paid attention to the bands for a minute every now and then"? Well, Thursday night at Exit/In was sort of the opposite of that. The place wasn't empty, but it wasn't packed, either. It would have been nice if more people had come out. But on the other hand, it was great how attentive everyone was.

The Nobility's Sean Williams wore some old-school Seattle Supersonics shorts in order to give the touring bands a taste of home. Of course, the city of Seattle is suing the team, which is trying to relocate to Oklahoma City. But we digress. Sera Cahoone said she loved the shorts.

Speaking of Sera Cahoone, we totally had an innocent kind of I-like-your-music crush on her before the show, but by the time we had finished talking to her at the merch table (she's cool as hell, and looking for some Obama signage to put on the tour van), we wished we knew how to knit, because we would make her a sweater and send it to her with a note that says, "Since you live in cloudy, rainy Seattle, Sera Cahoone, you should wear this sweater to keep you nice and warm when you think of The Spin."

Grand Archives played a really good set. We weren't sure all that multi-part harmonizing on the album would translate to the live setting, since that's a lot of moving pieces and we thought, well, maybe it's a lot of studio trickery that makes it happen. Turns out the vocals were pristine. We weren't crazy about their cover of Sam Cooke's "Another Saturday Night" (the only thing worse than hearing Sam Cooke complain about not being able to get laid is hearings someone else cover Sam Cooke complaining about not being able to get laid). But that was a minor offense. The crowd seemed to know their album pretty well, and their new material seemed a logical progression.

Ron Lewis' parents, who drove to Nashville from their home in South Carolina for the show, bought a T-shirt with their son's band name on it. You can't really see them in this photo, but trust us, that's them on the right. They also loaded up on buttons and stickers.

man, is sean's shorts really all there was to say about the nobility? they're a fucking great band, but no matter who you're reviewing, that's a diss.

Those shorts are 100% awesome. They'd go great with my Lenny Wilkens t-shirt.
