When cabaret pop act Thornton changed their name to Your Operator last year, singer/namesake Kevin Thornton said it made the band "feel like dreamers again." That dream was a short one, as the band soon ran into a little trademark issue with a "grungetastic band called Operator." So they've changed their name again, this time to the to the legally protected Waves on Waves. They've also signed up with label/investors VTP Music.
You can check out their newly named melancholy pop at The End on June 1, where they'll celebrate the release of their self-titled debut (mastered by Ted Jensen).

In my humble opinion, Had a Sword will forever be their masterpiece. The new music is great, Kevin's voice is angelic, but the whole package on Had a Sword is genius.

i dunno if i can take this picture seriously enough to give their music a chance.
i mean, c'mon... old dude might as well be wearing a dr. seuss hat instead of that crown - and that shit-eating grin doesn't do his douche-factor any favors. and i'm not even sure what to say about the whole no-undies-no-shirt-denim-jacket-toolbag motif.
dedect even more points for the ponytail. and please tell me homeboy has another glove on that other hand.
Kevin Thornton is a remarkable talent, and this band deserves great success.
Casio has a lot to say about every detail of this photo. Anyone want to chip in to get him an 8X10 glossy for his personal collection?
actually, I AM gay- so the name suggestion is valid. blowjob anyone?
kjt
Yeah Thornton, I agree it's a great suggestion but if we change our name to Gay on Gay we'll have to print up new merch and stuff. What would we do with the Waves on Waves merch? Maybe we could start a surf shop and sell the stuff there.
Also, I don't think anyone else had previously mistaken the ear ring Luke Aaron had on for a pony tail, but maybe that would be a good look for him. We could frost his tips and accent it with a nice scrunchy.
Well I'm going to go writhe about on the floor at PLAY dance bar and enter the student body contest. WOO! Taste the rainbow.
I can't take Casio Cassanova seriously, cuz well, it's Seth Graves. Though, I do sometimes enjoy Tigers with Cheese.
Seth hasn't figured out that some people don't care for the I need a haircut, but I need a shower worse look.
shit, dude. haircuts ain't cheap in this town.
showers are, however. so i don't have a comeback for that particular bit of constructive criticism.
there's a Henry Rollins interview where he was talking about touring with Black Flag-- and how all the punk midwestern kids-- the "nonconformists"-- were the most small minded people he ever encountered. they gave absolutely no room to be daring-- they wanted only their very strict definition of what was "cool".
even i who hate all the hipster shit, LOVE Waves on Waves. I have to say their B sides CD was killer. I think its out of print but it ruled.
I loved Kevin and Enoch's comments. You guys rule!!
I love Waves On Waves. I have a life, no time for long rants. Nudge to the homophobe closet case named after a calculator.
Why is a supposedly straight dude so concerned with this bands fashion. Any publicity is good publicity. This is an amazing band. There very intelligent and intentional. Way to go WOW.
Waves on Waves frickin' ROCKS! I hadn't heard of them until I got home from work and there was a copy of their new CD sent to me by their publicist. I've played it 4 times already and even went back and purchased a copy of "Had a Sword." It's ALL good -- every song, which is rare. Wait until you hear "We Want 2," "A Lighter Load," "Emergency Workers" and "Modern Man." They're like Tears for Fears remade for metrosexuals. This is definitely one of the year's best records! Get it! :)
